Advise on changing status from visitor to work:

Hi everybody. I visited Australia for 3 months and I asked an immigration lawyer if I can be able to change status to work but he said I need to get a sponsor. Can someone advise on how I can get a sponsor

You get a sponsor by getting a job first. So the company that offers you a job will act as your sponsor provided you only for work for them while in Australia.

However in order to qualify for a visa, your skills will need to be on the skills list. What work do you do?

Hi Jordy. Thanks fir responding. I was working as an office administrator and its not in the skills list.I just graduated at Unisa( BA Comm Science). Now I want to go back to Australia and my priority is to study MBA but without a job I cannot be able to pay fees. I thought there were care giver jobs that I can do in order to save for school

Monthdark, there are lots of jobs that you could do whilst studying, but here lies the problem. If you come in on a study visa, you are allowed to work only 20 hours per week. That may be enough for you to live, very frugally, but it definitely will not be enough to pay your student studying fees, as you would be regarded as a foreign student and the fees for that is phenomenal. You could Google the universities in Australia and check what their foreign student fees are, to see for yourself.

The only way you would get in with PR (permanent residence) is if the skills you have is on one of the lists for Australia, even then, you have to show that you have the qualifications, experience and be under 45, in order to even be considered. As you have just graduated, I am guessing you would be short on the experience side of things.

Just a shot in the dark, if you got great graduation results, then perhaps search the web and see if there are any universities that are offering a bursary for an MBA, probably unlikely, but hey without checking you would never know. Especially look for a bursary for a student "from a disadvantaged" country.

Sorry I could not be of more help.

Hi Monthdark,

It sounds like you may also lack a bit of work experience. Some other things to think about are maybe some family or friends who operate businesses in Aus, maybe they would be prepared to sponsor you a 457 visa, and while you are here you can look at options, since it is easier when you are in Australia getting local work experience.

I would say though that your options are not as broad as they can be, maybe boost your experience then give it a go? I assume you are young so then time is in your favour.

Thank you guys for your helpful responses, much appreciated!!!

With no friends and family in Australia, I'm in for a tough road ahead. I wish that proposal for immigrants to gain citizenship can be in effect soon.

Monthdark, not sure what you meant by the proposal, but if you have PR, after living in Australia for 4 years, you can automatically apply for Australian citizenship.

The proposal was on the news yesterday

Hi Surfer man,

I am thinking of going back to Aussie with my visiting visa again. Maybe I can figure out what I can do once I'm there. Can't stand being in SA anymore

Monthdark, thank you for the link, I had not seen or heard about that... honestly, I would be very surprised if that idea was ever implemented, there would be a huge hue and cry by the public, unions and businesses.
