I'm Back!

Hi everyone!

I was around on the forum 3 years ago when we were due to move on a 457 visa to Gold Coast. We hit stumbling blocks at every point & eventually 9 months after accepting the job offer, we pulled out. We just felt we weren't meant to go at that stage! We were exhausted emotionally.

We moved to Durban & although we've been happy, we know we need to leave. We also considered UK as its close to family but we've lived there before & it never felt like home.

So, we have jumped onto the emigration roller coaster again! This time we know what we in for & more prepared.

We have decided not to tell people until our flights are booked!!

My folks haven't been very supportive re the move. Before we told them that we were considering it they said they wish we could leave, then as soon as it became a possibility, everything changed. Loads of emotional "bribery" from my mom, they don't have lots of friends in Oz so no real incentive to visit?, my inheritance won't mean much in dollars, it went on. Oh well, I know they are just sad.

Anyway, we are soooo excited & can't wait to get everything going. Doing 457 & hoping to apply for PR as soon as we get there.

This forum has helped so much with info & knowing we aren't alone!

Welcome to the merry - go - round.

If you're still in Durban, and want a climate (sub tropical) that's similar, then choose to live on the eastern side of Australia (Pacific Coast which is warm and moist, much like the east side of Africa has a moist Indian Ocean) then choose Brisbane, north (Sunshine Coast) or south (Gold Coast) or even the north of New South Wales (Tweed Heads and below)

Thanks Bob! We have a few friends in Perth so have decided to head there.. I've been & loved it but my husband hasn't even been to Oz & has placed his trust in me!? job wise, I can get a job closer to the city compared to other cities. Still lots of hurdles to get over but we are positive it WILL work this time!??

  • 5 months later...

So, almost 6 months to the day I posted this year, visa approved! My specialist registration has been approved & then visa!

So, 10 days left at my job & then up to Pretoria to stay with my folks until we fly on the 14/15th July! We can't believe that we are on our way!!

We have managed to get a 6 month rental from the day we arrive & boys have been accepted into the local primary school in Mullaloo!

Exciting times ahead!!
