RYLC
I am qualified to teach the foundation phase but am missing 5 days of prac teaching on this phase. It seems a bit ridiculous?"Ridiculous" isn't going to win you any friends or favours. Go to the AITSL website and follow their links for the early years assessment form. It specifies very clearly what you need to submit. From what I remember they want 45 days minimum for practice teaching. Now if they can count all your days you have enough. If they only count the 40 for foundation then you have a problem. I know that the Saffa way is to ring up or email that this is wrong, that 5 days makes little difference, their process is flawed, you will be taking the matter higher, etc etc... Please resist the urge to approach the situation in this aggressive manner. Instead see if you can go cap in hand with a "please can you help me" approach and phone or email an assessor to ask about how you would be able to make up those 5 days, or whether your total would suffice because you have a "double" qualification. I don't mean to sound harsh about the approach you use but, with my sister being a teacher and going through the same conversation with her, her response was also very finger waggingly authoritative - "teacher-ish" for want of a better term. I don't mean to offend but just want to let you know how it is in Australia where a demanding, "that's just wrong" approach will get you nowhere.
SurferMan
I would also try the softly softly approach first. In the end with the ACS I had to get super aggro and it worked, but that was a last resort.
OzzieWishes
sorry haven't read all the posts so may repeat myself. Your agent has definitely applied for wrong occupation. you qualify for Early childhood which is on the skills list and does not require sponsorship. With an 8 or above IELTS, you'd get 60 points and would get an invite to apply for 189. I am a teacher and came in on special needs. I did my application myself so feel free to ask any questions. My suggestion would be to reapply for EC as soon as possible and redo the IELTS to get 8 or above. it's very possible. also, you need to get a job offer before you are eligible for state sponsorship which is very unlikely. Good luck -shout if you have any questions.p.s. it would require a whole new assessment I'm sure as I have had one done for Primary and then also Special Needs (all the same bloody paperwork!)
missj
@Briggy - a friend of mine has had the exact same thing happen to her from an agent from four corners. She applied for her as a primary teacher and not early years. She is also foundation phase trained. What happened in the end? Did the agents pay for you to be reassessed as an early years teacher? She is so cross.
Junglejet
@Briggy and @ABC123 I want to ask what was name of teaching degree you graduated with, Bach of Education or Bach of Primary Education? Assume either way, they specialized in Foundation phase thus 6 - 8 years old or grade 1 - 3 right? My wife has Bach of Primary Education but definitely specialized in Foundation phase - degree only states Bach of Primary Education though we now have to show through curriculum syllabus and teaching peace that it indeed only focused on children aged 6 - 8 yrs old, which was in fact the case. Her experience includes 6 years of teaching grade 1 and 8 years teaching grade 3 - all children aged 6 - 8 yrs. I'm trying to see how many other people with Bach of Primary Education (focused on Foundation Phase) have got a positive AITSL assessment back as ECD? ABC123
Hi Junglejet, I graduated with a Bachelor of Primary Education, specialising in Foundation Phase. My teaching experience is mostly with Yr 2's (age 6 and 7 years old) and I got a positive assessment as and Early Childhood Teacher. Good luck with the process!
