GoldCoastGal
Hi allI'm sure this is dealt with elsewhere - but for the life of me I can't find it! Apologies in advance for any duplication - please feel free to post links to other threads. We came over on a 175 PR Visa (now the 189) several years ago, and are now desperate to get mom over. I know visa types & rules have changed significantly since our application process, so I feel like I'm starting fresh! My brother qualifies for a 189, and I've offered to pay for his application if he includes mom as an aged dependent.I believe she will meet the aged dependent criteria (financial dependence, living with my brother, etc).I have some questions if anyone has answers...the immi website provides a list of examples for 'adult dependents' but the list doesn't include 'parents' - is this because it's 'obvious' or because parents are excluded (surely not...)?I assume that mom will be entitled to the same visa benefits as any other secondary applicant on the 189, that is she will be entitled to work, medicare and after 4 years, citizenship? (Which is why I think it would be better for her to come in this way, rather than on a parent visa.)Any other comments/advice much appreciated, with thanks! I'd really like to hear other forumites' experiences and tips if they've included their parent in their 189 application.
21yearsoutofrsa
A dependent is entitled to all the benefits you mention. There is a risk to this process.1 Proving dependence. This is actually easier for South Africans as there is no effective social security in RSA.2 Medicals. DIBP has a policy of "fail one, fail all". So if the dependent does not pass the medical then nobody gets a visa.If a dependent fails the medical it is very difficult for the primary applicant to apply for a visa subsequent to the decline, as they will now not be declaring a dependent. They will have to wait until that person is no longer a dependent. Remember you are required to disclose any visa applications that have been made in the past. The first question a CO will ask is "why are they dependent 3 months ago, but not now?" The implications are big because you are either not been truthful on this current application, or not been truthful on the previous application, either is a reason for declining a visa.So the risk for your brother and his family is your Mom failing the medical. TeeTMI
Parents can potentially be included on skilled visa applications where they meet the selection criteria and DIBP policy in respect of being considered 'dependant'. It is important to understand the full definitions of the terminology and the policy.
johanVS
Mother, does that include mother in law? Say I am the main applicant, could my wife ad her mother on the aplication? Want to make the move after completing my llb degree etc etc. A long way to go, but has been following topics on this site since end 2013 on a daily basis. Addicted to this site.
