Sox
Am I correct in the following assumptions, keeping the change to the granting of motor vehicle licences in mind.To obtain your motor car drivers licence - you need a valid South African drivers licence and the issuing of an Australian Drivers licence is done without any form of additional testingTo obtain your motor cycle riders licence - the same applies without any additional testingThanks in advance for your assistance.
Jordy
You are correct! At least that is the rule in WA. Not sure if same in other states. I converted my Big Bike licence - took 2 minutes and was free.
chzaau
Yes and no is the answer. To change a South Africa driving license over for NSW successfully without any testing requires that you are over the age of 25 years at the time of exchange. Persons under that age must complete a test. That is my understanding.
HadEnoughofJuju
The 25 thing is not just a state thing, it's an AustRoads thing as well which means all the states have to follow it.
Sox
Thanks AllMy wife did a bit of searching and found the following:-NSW: over 25 (http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/licensing/newtonsw/recognisedcountries.html)Queensland: over 25 or had a licence for 5 years (https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/licensing/driver-licensing/overseas/transfer/index.html)WA: same rules (http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/licensing/transferring-your-overseas-licence.asp)My wife and I should be OK, but our 18 year old son is going to have to do it all again. Sox
Maybe a stupid question ...Does it matter which State you convert your drivers licence in?If I convert it in Queensland but move and settle in Western Australia does it make any difference? 21yearsoutofrsa
When you apply for your license you will be required to show a proof of address (which will be put on your license). That address will have to be in the state you are applying in. If your address changes to another state you are required to transfer your license to that state within a certain time frame (I think 90 days).
