We will be coming to Melbourne for the cricket world cup next year for the SA vs India match and are looking for suggestions on accommodation. 2 adults and 2 kids. We are driving up from Adelaide so want to stay outside the city and just catch public transport if possible. Can't do anything frightfully expensive. Any suggestions on where to stay?

Have you heard of airbnb? You rent from a private person - either a room or the whole house.

I've done it in Sydney and Sunshine Coast and it is fantastic value with all the added benefits of having a local to help with info.

A friend did it in France - rented a tiny apartment from a girl who met them at the train, had maps, metro cards and recommendations for her favourite local restaurants. It is an awesome service.

I am posting a link for you below, it shows the MCG and all the self catering and hotels close to it. I have not checked the prices, as I do not know when you will be here, not a cricket follower.
