Sunday Times today: Cyril Ramaphosa off to woo voters in Australia

I know - they can all go and have gatherings, campaigning in the Outback, then we can go back and grab South Africa while they're happily chasing 'roos and playing didgeridoos. :whome:

My money is on them gaining "a number of supporters" and being seen only "in a favourable light" and that the vote will reflect the same kind of % in favour of ANC as the SA vote itself, so they can say: hey look, these numbers HAVE to be right because even the folk overseas vote for us.

Secrecy bill anyone?

Oh, I won't be surprised, McCabes !!! Sometime ago there was something in this banana-politics country a notion that if you don't vote, your 'vote' will automatically be counted in the winning party's favor. I won't be surprised...

You all do realize that the secrecy bill gives the ANC the power to change the results and not have to explain anything to anyone. Wonder if they have figured that out? :P

I wouldn't be going back and grabbing South Africa even if the ruling party all got on a boat and sailed off into the sunset..............it's over, my life is here, this is my country, RSA is a land I once lived in....................sorry, I'm just reminded of a Saffer I once knew who was going to " wait for them to destroy the country then we can go back and rebuild it"..................mmmmm,

@AndreaL, we haven't even been here for that long yet and I feel the same. There isn't enough money or incentive to get me to return.

Just a heads up:

If you are not registered on the voter roll:

You need to go to Canberra and register to vote, then on voting day go back to Canbera to cast your vote = 2 trips.

If you are registered on the voting roll you only go to Canberra to vote = 1 trip

There is nowhere else you can vote but canberra

Friend of mine phoned Canberra and confirmed this with them

K, so that means I'm skipping this one. The only reason I voted in South Africa was so that I could moan about the rulling party. No vote, no moan and I guess not being there means I don't need to moan anymore. :P

Alida... shocking. But I'm not at all surprised if that's how they see it. No wonder the numbers are so greatly in their favour.

Andrea... sometimes I can only wonder at the minds of people who say things like that... they obviously don't realise how big a mess this is, there just isn't a starting point anymore to try and sort things out. I'd love to hear their plans on how to rebuild... :whome:

If the ANC every once thought that the people who left South Africa because of the political landscape and constant fear caused by the situation in the country would vote for the party who is largely responsible for causing the majority of the issues, then they are smoking their socks.

I got halfway down the article and got annoyed and remembered why I chose to leave South Africa in the first place. A government who lives in the land of dreams. "Half the people left because of the ANC...", they meant to say half the people here will admit to leaving because of the ANC, the other half just want to forget why they left and enjoy their new lives.

The only reason people here care about the politics in South Africa is not because they want to return one day but more likely because they still either have business interests or family that they are worried about back in South Africa.

I'm not saying that the rest of us don't worry about our family, we just don't care for the politics, which is a one sided farce anyway.

Dear ANC,

Jewish people would be more likely to vote for Hitler. But enjoy your taxpayer funded trips to Australia.

Kind regards,

All the people who emigrated because you screwed up our country.

You guys all mostly know me by now, and I have been called liberal or bleeding heart, socialist and much worse......................but, I would never, ever, ever, vote ANC..........................nothing to do with colour, because I am staunchly anti-racism, but because of nepotism, corruption, self-enrichment, self indulgence, failing the poor and uneducated in South Africa, bleeding the country dry with no thought for future generations.................no attempt to even enter into a spirit of reconciliation, no attempt to build a nation that all South Africans could be proud of, no attempt to apply law and order for all citizens...........................I'm sure you get the picture......................an idea of creating a society where all people are equal has been distorted and crushed.............I can't for the life of me think of any positive contribution that the ANC have made to the people of South Africa (perhaps there is and I am just missing it).......................makes me sort of wish that I did have a vote, so I could put it elsewhere....anywhere.

Daffy Duck has my vote. Simply because no one can really make out what he is saying to start with and he talks a whole bunch of rubbish anyway. The perfect politician :P

I actually feel sorry for JZ. It's cruel to make such a stupid person president. He must be so confused the whole time.

That's assuming of course he knows that he is president and is not living under the illusion he is king.
