Round 2 Perth here we come

Been a hard year of ups and downs in Brisbane. If anyone knows of a recruiter preferably South African or foreign I am finding them more empathetic and willing to help. Any contacts in companies hiring financial and IT staff. I intend registering with enough agents and then doing my own canvassing directly to companies.

My family deserves the life I promised them. To those crossing now, bring savings, bring guts and a heap of faith because you may need to dig deep.

Good luck May.

I hope this move will be the one where everything falls into place and your family get the life you all deserve. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you all xxx

Good luck

There is some activity in the junior accounting market here - my son a CA(AUS) has recently received 3 job offers, and starts his new job 1st Nov.

He relaxed and let the agents do thier job, without being too pushy, which he said is important otherwise one could be percieved as aggresive or arrogant, something which can be percieved as indicative of a potential problem employee - tall poppy syndrome ?

Am not aware of what the more senior sector of this market is like - so can't comment ...

My wife also did a MYOB course and found a nice 09h00 to 14h00 (essentially mornings only) job doing accounts, which suited her great, so she has time to do the shopping and other home admin stuff during the week - which means our weekends are 'free' time :-)

Mara I know you still holding out for a personal delivery on that $10 koeksister. Thank you, met a lot of people on retirement leading full lives because the community looks after them.

Patrice, aikona think I mucked that up already then seems I either push too hard or too soft. Oh well will sukkel on.

Search, deal is such that there is not work in Natural Adabas in Perth and hubby has worked 30 years on IBM mainframe so any advice or suggestions, doesnt evens have to be IT IT something similar but not call centre because he has a hearing disability. Maybe co-ordinator or data engineer or train DBA....nee ek weet regtig nie.

Reason I asked was to see if I could help as I work for a large IT company in Perth and could have forwarded your/his CV onto our HR department. But as you know green screens are somewhat extinct. DBA work yes so let us know what experience and qualifications.

To be honest I think you may struggle with Natural etc, there very few organization that run these platforms, even in South Africa. My suggestion would be to try and find out what firms use Mainframe in Perth, and then research further from there to see if the use CICS etc as I would guess this is most likely where he spends or has spent time with natural. I would think the Banks and insurance firms would be the most likely to be running these platforms. Perth is not really home to these org's.

Now I understand why you would have a better chance for your husband in Mel and Syd.

I have tried to twist May's arm to come to Melbourne, but no luck thus far... I must agree, with her hubby's unique qualifications I definitely think Sydney or Melbourne would be a better bet! Also, I think that in a way, they may well be more accepting of migrants. Sorry May, I do still hope that everything will go well for you in Perth.

One day I still plant to collect!

When I retire I plan to come past Melbourne in my camper van ...first have to get the job to retire from :magic:

I have this past week put in applications to companies in insurance and mainframes, listed on SEEK. Not sure where else to find information. Contacted places like IBM, etc. No worries something will come along with lots of preserverance and prayer.

I think at 56/57 years working in banking in Sydney very daunting, one day at a time and maybe when the mindset changes but for now we will hopefully commiserate amongst friends in Perth or just sit on the beach ...at least we will have the scenery and hopefully a social life :jester:

May, all of the best for you.

May you be blessed and find something very soon.

What about also contacting places like universities - you never know what systems they may still have lurking that need support.

Just had retinal eye surgery and you realise your mortality. God was watching over me as I suspected it for over 6 months but the fear of what if would cost and the stress of unemployment and settling in. So will not be off to Perth for a few weeks, rather have this specialist do his followup
