Why can't I edit my post?

rikamarie

Question

Hi. I wrote a post: Teaching in Australia: the process explained (http://www.saaustralia.org/index.php/topic/40494-teaching-in-australia-the-process-explained/) but for some reason I can't edit the post.

I want to add and update some information on the post, but the "edit" button doesn't appear.

Thanks

Rika-Marie

There what Toitjie said. You have a 24 hour window in which to edit after which the edit button disappears.

Just love to hijack the threads...

@ Toitjie, I will be thinking of you guys on the 22nd of Nov. Time is running out fast...

@ HEOJJ, it is like a family and the best part is they don't argue / fight with you for wanting to go to Aus. This is the first place I update what is happening on our journey cause I know I will get positive feedback, not a fight and 10 000 questions...

We are doing very well. Hubby got a positive skills assessment end last week from ACS. We had to decide on where in Oz we will settle, Sydney is not an option as hubby not on the list and the other places just does not seem to have a lot of work opportunities for him. So it seems like God wants us in Victoria, Melbourne area...

I am working my little fingers off in trying to get his CV into the VIC required format so we can lodge State sponsorship. BUT he can't remember the exact day and month that he changed positions and they want this... He has been with the same company since he started working and has moved around so much. No idea how and where I am going to get this info...

Any way, Toitjie, good luck with the last bit of work on this side and HEOJJ, keep your head up, you are an inspiration (p.s. whenever I see a guy on a bike I think of your sore bud :blush-anim-cl:)

Hey Bams, one thing I have learnt through this process is you will end up where you are meant to be and there is no use fighting it. Congrats on the positive skills assessment and good luck with the CV.

Hi AndreaL, thanks, appreciate it.

Hi Bams, doing fine, just dissapointed, as I found out this week I have to have my qualifications assessed again before any child care centre can employ me, and the assessment costs $2000! Just don't have the money right now. So I'm hoping I'll find a job at a private school.

Congrats with the skills assessment and good luck with the cv writing and state sponsorship.

@Toitjie, your days a re numbered :-D, we have 76 days left!

Rikmarie, I'm not sure what type of positions you were intending going for at childcare centres, but you only need to be enrolled in and working toward a Cert III to get work at a childcare centre...............You just enrol at TAFE to do this and ir isn't expensive..............so maybe go this route so that you are earning dollars, which will go toward that qualification assessment.

If truth be told, many young girls enrol in the Cert III to get the job, but never complete the qualification, the next qualification up for day care is a diploma and if you are working in a childcare facility you can often RPL certain modules of the diploma and have the director of the facility sign you off as competent in others.

Here is what I found re the changes and qualifications needed for daycare from January 2014, I'll just paste a portion and provide the link

Within each long day care centre or preschool, half of all educators who
are required to meet the relevant educator-to-child ratios will need to
have (or be working towards) an approved diploma-level early childhood
education and care qualification or above and the remaining educators
will all be required to have (or be working towards) an approved
Certificate III level early childhood education and care qualification
or equivalent.

Just remember that there are many ways to go about things in Australia. I suspect that if you land a position and they find out that you have a teaching qualification that just needs assessed in Australia, that you will be the room leader very quickly ( usually the person that has the diploma) and once your teaching qualification is assessed you would be able to go for a Director position or move into primary education.

I'm not sure who told you that a childcare centre would not employ you without a qualification assessment, because as you see, you only need to be "working toward" i.e. enrolled in a Cert III

Thanks Andrea, I am an early childhood teacher. I sent my cv to a few childcare centre and they all require the certificate from ACECQA, stating that my qualification are in fact eligible to work as an early childhood teacher. This assessment is only for early childhood teachers.

I contacted ACECQA and they confirmed that I have to have the assessment before a childcare centre employed me because my qualification was obtained overseas, but I am allowed to work as an assistant whilst my qualifications are being assessed. It takes about 10 weeks.

I have a Bachelor degree in education (specialising in Early childhood and K-3) and then I also completed my Honours degree in education (specialising in Early childhood education).

Thanks for the advice! Will defnitiley look into all my options!
