Hi everyone

I know this question is difficult to answer, but please help. We just need clarification.

If a company offers you a salary (ex. Aus$90 000 plus Super), is the Super on top of or included the 90 000?

Also, is this salary enough for a familiy of 4 in Sydney?

Some employers include super when they quote the salary, some exclude it, so it's best to confirm with the company rather than assume and sell yourself short. Quite often, if the salary includes super, it will say $90k package or "total salary package".

In terms of whether it's enough, it's always a difficult one to answer because every household varies. Can a family survive on 90k in Sydney? Absolutely, but luxuries will be rare. Again, people vary, some consider luxuries to be a bottle of wine, some consider it to be a BMW. You will not starve or be homeless on 90k.

In Melbourne, basically 90k plus is enough to pay for rent, phone/internet, public transport + 1 car, food, essential clothes, medical aid, kids presents, school 'extras' incl. some extra-murals, and perhaps there will be enough to go camping every now and then.

You're not paying for take-aways, movies, new cars, cool clothes, overseas trips, gadgets etc.

I think there is a minority that lives on less, and many that live on more.
