Should get you started. Otherwise the there is a site where you can compare the full range and get quotes:

iselect.com.au

Prices vary a lot depending on what you decide to include...

As an example for you, we pay $120 per fortnight with NIB for pretty decent cover. We are in our mid 40s with an 18 and 19 year old. We have the usual cover, hospital, ambulance, dental, optical, etc.

You select what cover you think you will need and pay for that.

Also take into consideration that you'll be on Medicare too which usually covers:

  • free or subsidised treatment by health professionals such as doctors, specialists, optometrists, dentists and other allied health practitioners (in special circumstances only)
  • free treatment and accommodation as a public (Medicare) patient in a public hospital
  • 75 per cent of the Medicare Schedule fee for services and procedures if you are a private patient in a public or private hospital (does not include hospital accommodation and items such as theatre fees and medicines)
  • some health care services in certain countries

More information can be found on their website:

When you arrive in Australia, that is one of the first things to do - get you and your family on Medicare.

New migrants to Australia - as a new migrant to Australia, if you are aged 31 or over, you will not have to pay a Lifetime Health Cover loading if you take out private hospital insurance within 12 months of being registered for Medicare. However if you are subsequently overseas on the day 12 months after your Medicare registration, and if you registered with Medicare on or after 1 July 2009, then you will not have to pay a Lifetime Health Cover loading if you purchase hospital cover within 12 months of your return to Australia. After this time you will have to pay 2% more for each year you are aged over 30 when you take out private health insurance.
