Tax season tips

Thanks, it does sort of... but not necessarily what I wanted to hear :( ... looks like I'll have to pay tax

I sort of thought so...............if you do the whole stay in one place and rent for a period of time etc. Your RSA tax paid does count toward here too, but as I am really not familiar with the pro's and cons, and you want to make sure you get the best tax deal, I would consult a tax specialist here as soon as you arrive. Also remember that when you submit your tax return here you are able to claim it back.

I am guessing that you intend to go for p.r. via your 476 after the correct time frame...........if not you may be able to claim tax back when you leave the country.

I have googled and googled today about this and not come up with anything concrete, so sorry about that....I hate being flummoxed.

Unfortunately there isn't a special way to transition to a PR from a 476, so I'll have to apply for a 189 from scratch via SkillSelect. Luckily I've already completed my IELTS for my 476 visa, so I just need to do my skills assessment before I am ready to apply for an EOI (and hold thumbs for an invite). I already have enough points, but it's just quite pricey (for a 20-somethings) to go through all the motions without even knowing if I'll like it in Aus - hence the 18 months trip on the 476.

Thank you for the help and commitment - much appreciated. Safest would probably be to go see a tax consultant once I am there.

Aaah, I see, there were transitional arrangements in place up until January of this year to progress from 476 to p.r. unfortunately no longer and you have to go through the Skillselect and EOI process.

At least you have the points, may people don't, and you will surely be able to claim some for working in Australia ( not sure if it is 12 months or longer, things change so often!)

Anyway, good luck, I'm certain you will really enjoy Australia and want to get that EOI in ASAP.....(ruddy acronyms) :)
