Presentation to the Bank?

I see a lot of comments referring to presenting yourself to the banks. What is that about and is it always a separate trip? Can it not be done when one moves to Aus? We can't really afford to make two trips!

Your bank account in Australia is not officially open until you go into the bank and ID yourself. They then issue you with a bank card, etc. You can most certainly do this when you move to Aus. The bank account is opened from RSA and you can transfer money from RSA into it, but not much else can be done until you present yourself and get all the other stuff.
