If you are on a 457 visa, you only have to pay school fees as foreign students if you go to live in New South Wales or ACT (Australian Capital Territory).

If you go to Queensland you do not have to pay.

Johann, a sponsorship is normally if you want to go for a temporary visa or a sponsored pr visa and they are not easy to come by in the current climate. What are your options for going for an independent pr by yourself?

For electricians that were sponsored either with pr or a 457 a lot of them have mining or abbattoir experience. perhaps you should have a look on seek etc and look for options that are with sponsorship, but that will mostly be a temp 457.

Is there a particular reason you would prefer to be sponsored rather than do an independent visa application ? Not being nosy, just trying to give you the best advice possible.

Hi,

Yes, the main reason is school fees and health care i guess. Will do a bit more research, maybe i understand it wrong.

Thanks for the help all.

Well, if you are a permanent resident I.e. you get an independent pr through your own steam, you will be entitled to Medicare and only pay whatever fees apply to the school you send your kids to. f you come on a 457 temp visa and end up in NSW, ACT and I'm not sure about NT, then you would pay about $4500 per child per year, even at a state school.

Once you have done your skills assessment and IELT's and have all your other paperwork in order you can apply through the EOI system of Skillselect with DIAC, you can read about the various visa options here.......http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/

  • 1 month later...

How much did the VETASSESS cost and how did you do it? My husband is an electrician and we only starting our process now.

Part-1 $600 + Courier cost = +/-R6500

Part-2 $1500 = +/-R15,000

Part-1 excludes passport photos, Certification of each Document, driving around getting everything ++++++++

Part-2 the VETASSESS test is only in Cape Town so it excluded Car Hire, Plane tickets, Accommodation +++++++

This is still not your licence, after this you still need to work 3 months under supervision before you can apply. Not sure how much that part will cost.
