Otto
Just have to announce I just flunked my driving test, made on STUPID mistake!
Riekie
Ag nee!!! Toe ek vir my bestuurstoets gegaan het, het hulle vir my gesê as ek "fail" moet ek weer op L-plates gaan (dalk omdat my RSA lisensie die volgende dag sou verval!).

Alles is mooitjies omgekeer. Sterkte Otto.
zappa
janneman, ek moes ook n paar jaar linkerkant ry...sukkel met die afr, a tip i learned...when you climb into the car and want to drive off from the wrong side (i.e. from the cubby side), open the cubby and pretend you are looking for something...that way you don't look like a total idiot to people who may have seen this.... Otto
Otto
Jy moet sien hoe lyk SY foto. Met myne wys ek net krom tanne, was so 'n verligitng dat ek nie ophou smile het nie. Die ding was nogal 'n kruis vir my, my werk het subtiele dreigemente gegee as ek dit nie die keer deurkom nie, want ek moet 'n kar vir die werk gebruik, en as ek nie lisensie sou kry nie, sou die departement my werksmotor verloor het, wat beteken dat ek een van my groot perks sou verloor het. Nogal 'n ongemaklike situasie.
Vee
Hi Guys, I just bought a car, went ot the RTA today, and according to them I don't need a licence the test or anything unless I am a permanent resident. Until then I can just drive around with my SA licence. This seems correct cause i saw the woman face to face, but I see you went for your NSW licences? Or are you PR's? australian
[Hi VeeDid they let you buy the car with your SA license....I was getting worried as we are coming over shortly and will need to buy a car within the first few days. I have PR but my husband will still be on a temp res....I was hoping he could buy the car without having to worry about getting a NSW license first. My brother has PR, and has not been able to buy a car as he has not done his NSW license!! He uses mostly public transport, but he is single with no kids!!I would then guess, that I would have 3 months to get my NSW license as I will be the main driver...Is this correct?? Madelein
Dear AllIt works like this (correct me if I'm wrong): This is in NSW:You can drive with your SA license untill expiry date on the licence (temporary visa). Once you get your PR, you should do a knowledge test and drivers test. This should be done within 3 months after entering Australia with a PR visa. You can buy a car on your SA license - if it is a cash/private sale. If you need Financing on a 457 visa, you should apply for an ID card with the RTA (They will give you some sort of an ID no - cost: $45) or just get your NSW license. The Bank might give you a loan for the period of the Temporary Residency: for ex - on a 2 year lease or up to 4 years. You have to get an Employer Contract, which should state the length of the contract & salary details with the Company. If you already applied for PR and are still on 457, you can also apply for financing - they would need a copy of the receipt with DIMIA and/or an Interim Medicare Card.Best is to visit your nearest RTA when you get to NSW, as there might be changes to the rules & regulations.Hope this helps.RegardsMadelein
