Hiya Roxandall,

It must have taken a lot for you to talk about your biological dad but sometimes it is easier talking to strangers. No pressure of being judged I suppose. I am sorry to hear that the outcome of you trying to find your dad did not have the expected outcome of actually meeting him. Now you perhaps have certain feelings of regret of finding him. However migrating brings out mixed emotions. I say this because I have sisters that I really do not keep in contact with( long story) but when my visa was granted and the permancy of my move was staring me in the face, I felt a great need to call and speak to them and let them know. Human emotion is really strange and usually with impending life changing moments we feel the need for closure to certain things.

If you don't mind me adding my two cents worth advise, I suggest get your visa sorted out and then go through the other emotional roller coaster of meeting the "other family" I say this with your emotional well being at heart. The visa process is a really emotional time so wait, take some time to absorb and process the "new family " info that you have. Who knows they may accept your with open arms and realize that you only want some closure before you head off to another continent to start a new life.

Please don't be upset by my forwardness and if you are I understand well.

All the best

RAD

Does anyone know what the food is like in OZ? I haerd from relatives in NZ that the chicken is awefull. I love chicken and a great steak.

I haven't noticed anything like that. Although I should add a disclaimer that I have only ever eaten chicken breast but it tastes the same to me. The only thing I can remember off hand being different when we got here is the color of the cheese.. When I see South African cheese now it almost looks orange to me! Over time you will get used to things and forget what they tasted like before. I certainly have. And we have had one or 2 awesome steaks here, make sure you ask for Wagu (spelling?) steak. Yummmmm....

I appologise for being so short off over my last posts, I have been having a problem with my galaxy tablet throwing me out, this after I've thanked and replied to everyone and given some info. happened so many times I wanted to throw the thing into the wall. So I had to resort to my cell to update and that was just as fustrating. But all ok now, I'll just hack into my husbands pc to give you'll the low down.

I hope that all of your hard work towards a visa will be satisfied with the reward of it having been granted.

I was very fustrated throughout the process, but looking back it went alot faster than other applications. 6 months in total, I am very glad to say that we will be in OZ very soon. I'm just having abit of trouble, all I want to do is donate, pack or recycle the items we have left in our house. I have so little left but it still looks like I have a house full of stuff. I'm not a last minute person and like things done weeks in advance, I hope you can understand the fustration. Plus we are holding my sons birthday and farewell together at my house so I cant exactly have an empty house when I have my guests over. This just makes things alittle concertrated for our last 3 days.

I love that I have someone to talk to , someone to read this garbage that I put down, THANK YOU for reading.

We have been in Australia for almost 2 months. We stayed in perth for 2 weeks while my husband applied for tax numbers and drivers licence and recieved his new uniforms. Perth is great, so beautiful. I managed to take my son to alot of the parks and rec activities that were avaliable, Caversham is a really nice place to visit. I was really elated when I found out how the recycling system worked, one bin for recyclables and one for other and they get collected.

The bliss came to an end and we were soon flown off to Port hedland. what a different town this is.... no recycling... :angry2: ....this is one of my pet peves, and the littering at the beaches is another, well I might not be able to do very much about the recycling but I sure as hell can make sure I do something about the litter, It's easy, I now carry a folded black bag with me and on the way out, I collect what I find.

other than a couple of minor things this is one of the most beautiful places and we are very happy here. my first fishing go, i caught a leopard ray, I was very excited and managed to remove the hook and set him free with out me getting a barb through a body part.

There is also a huge amout of activities to do on a daily basis here, so much so, that I cant wait for a sunday, it's the only day most shops and activities are closed. And the people here are generally fantastic people, I really love this little town and feel like its home already.

VIVA Port hedland. :king:

thank you to everyone for helping us reach our dream.

I'm glad that you had a safe trip over. Caversham Wildlife Park is so much fun. Did you get a chance to go to Rottnest Island? If you come down to Perth again for a visit, let me know before, and I can recommend some nice places to go.. Mind you, this is coming from someone who has never been to Port Hedland before :)

Been here for 2 months now and have to agree, i dont like the chicken at all, we have tried 2 places as well as the expensive stuff and the texture is different which puts me off

The meat and sausages are lekker tho, you get what you pay for so dont go for the cheapest but the medium priced is good

Chicken is ok as long as it is freerange. Cage birds taste like nothing, feel like rubber between your teeth and produce a tonne of water in your pot as they shrink away to nothing. We eat the Lilydale freerange range and that is fine.

Sausages (or snags) are gross, the mince is ground so finely you can't work out what you are eating - I go to the South African shop and get my boerewors.

Lamb is good, beef is good, pork is good (although sometimes a bit "wild" tasting). Agree, watch out for cheap cuts, they are cheap for a reason. Although I can suggest that if you want to make a good lamb or beef stew keep your eyes on the price of roasts, as sometimes they are much cheaper per kg and all you have to do is cut it up. Also get your oxtail at Coles - they sell it as a cheap cut but if you try and get some at the butcher they charge a premium for exactly the same cut.

I'm not a big meat eater, but with 3 big boys in my house I have to try. I'm usually found staring at the meat in Coles or Woolies in despair. Don't touch snags, but miss Escort viennas! Miss nice pork sausages. Everyone complains when I buy pork sausages here, even premium ones. Whole chickens are small & yucky (freerange much better, but too much hassle when the cooked ones cost the same). Lamb chops out of the question (we'd have to buy $60 worth to fill everyone up), rump is just stringy and horrid. Better steak is $$$ crazy and fatty. Oh dear. Boys hate fish and daughter hates chicken.

I now buy heartsmart mince, little pork steaks with no bones or fat, corned beef potroast (the type you simmer for 2 hours with a bayleaf), and actual roasts which you often get on special. I use stock cubes, herbs, garlic, onion, SA spice for mince, whatever!! in the mince as it tastes like cardboard.

Any other ideas?
