Any Opinions On Greenwood College In Perth

Hi all,

Time to choose a high school for my twins. I came across an article on Greenwood College, which is not too far from us. The reason it grabbed my attention was the fact that they do specialise in aviation, which is a huge passion of my son, who would love to become a pilot one day. While it's still early days for him to commit like that to his future, the fact that there is a school out there, which offers aviation is rather intriguing I think.....Then again the school doesn't exactly rank very high ((98th or there about) on the school ranking list, so I just don't know. Any advice please please?

Thanks so much.

Hi

Greenwood Senior High School , does not have a great reputation , their major draw card is their aviation program . I know that years back

Ansett Airlines used to be the major contributor to their program, but subsequently after they went belly up, I dont think that any major airline has taken up the on the program. But please dont quote me as I have not really informed myself on their program.

I know that one of my friends was a relief teacher at the school, and eventually refused to teach at that school as she felt the pupils were " a bit ferral". perhaps someone who has kids in the school can shed more light on the matter.

Regarding the aviation program, that should not be the basis on which you put you kids into a school, ECU Joondalup this year have introduction an excellent degree in avionics or aeronautical engineering.

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks Enrica - and yes, you are probably right, that's definitely not a good reason to place my kid in that school - unless of course, the school had a fantastic reputation - then again, if that would be the case I would have probably heard about the school by now. Much appreciated :)

Hi

Just came across you asking about schools for your twins and then the negative comment about Greenwood College. Greenwood College is a great school. Yes the school has aviation as one of their specialist programs but it also has many more great subjects to choose from. I have two boys and they both went to a private school, I actually took them out of the private system and enrolled them at Greenwood due to the fantastic dedicated staff. I have also been very lucky to be part of the staff for the last 5 years. Our Student service staff's prime objective is the welfare of the students. Students spend most of their time at school so it is important for us that they are happy while they are at school. My oldest son graduated year 12 last year and is now doing exceptionally well at University due to a solid foundation that was given to him at Greenwood. We also have a big population of South African students in the school, our Head Girl last year were from the Boksburg area. We are not a very big school and in itself that is a great thing, we know our students they are not just another student/number or fee coming into the school.

I invite you to make an appointment with our lovely Principal and come see for yourself.

Hello I am the Principal of Greenwood College in WA. I have 760 students at my school, we do have the Aviation program with approximately 70 students from Year 8-Year 12 participating in the course. Our teacher is a a fully qualified helicoptor and aeroplane pilot and our students are able to access a number of practical flying hours in the course. Cobham Airways and Jandakot Aero Club are our Aviation partners and the course is deemed highly competitive, students sit an entry exam to participate.

We pride ourselves on having a strong school community that supports the academic progress of our students allowing students to achieve their maximum potential. Our senior school results last year were very strong with 54% of our Year 12 students vying for university entry and 95% receiving first round offers.

A focus on student services (Manager, 5 Year coordinators, Chaplain, Psychologist) ensures our students maintain high standards of behaviour and attendance. All students wear the school uniform and our policies pertaining to mobile phones, internet use etc are enforced consistently.

I am very proud to be the Principal of Greenwod College, our school enjoys a first rate reputation within the area as indicated by the number of enquiries and school tours we conduct.

Thanks for that - certainly a very good sign, if the principal of a school takes the time to sit down and send a reply on a forum such as this one! I truly appreciate that - now I should most definitely at least go and have a look at the school and maybe arrange a meeting. :)
