Avatars and Signatures

After some discussion amongst ourselves, the host team decided to enable another little fun part to our sense of community spirit. Avatars are a fun way of attaching an image to your profile, which is then displayed in the left margin along with the rest of your public profile information. These are typically cartoonish pictures, or even a photograph of yourself or anything else you fancy. To upload an avatar file (gif, jpg, etc) to your profile, just hop over to the Edit Avatar Settings section in your control panel and follow the instructions. Just take note that an uploaded avatar has to be 80x80 pixels - so quite small. Please also refrain from using animated avatars - these tend to be distractive while reading posts, and any animated avatars will be removed without further warning.

The second issue it that of signatures. We want to ask you to keep your signatures as simple as possible. If at all possible, please stick to plain text. We want to allow folks to be able to concentrate on the postings themselves, and it is also for that reason that we restrict advertising banners to the top right corner of the forum. Having large graphics, or large text in your signature clutters the threads in which you post, making the forum experience for others more difficult to follow. If you really want to have a picture associated with your posts, do make use of the avatar feature discussed above. Also, your profile provides for a website address where you can point people to your personal, business, or favorite club website. Please don't put website links in your signatures.

Enjoy!

BUMP - just to remind folks and for those newer members who may not have come across this post! Please don't put website links in your signature even if you are a paid advertiser. If someone wants to contact you there are already a number of options. People choosing to view your profile will see your website link if you leave it there!
