cristel
I am assisting a friend in Applying for PR. He is a GP in Pretoria and has 15 years experience. Is there any GP's on the site that can maybe assist us with what to do ? We are very confused regarding the exam they are required to write again. It seems that only Tasmania, Northern Territory and Queensland does not require this.RegardsCristel
alanb
Cristel hi,My understanding is that all GPs have to write the exam to become fully registered in Australia, regardless. My wife is a specialist so the process is a bit different from a GP but Ill share our general experience with you and it may be of some use to your friend.Firstly, he must prepare himself to deal with bureacracy on a grand scale. It took so long and was so painful an expereince that we almost decided to not come. Tell him to get every piece of paper together with his training and experience together so long and get it all certified by an attorney. They require a stamp on the copy in a particular format. Make sure you do this as they will reject it if you simply do it according to the format in your country, we actually had to have one made for our attorney in Canada especially for this. Primary qualifications have to be verified by the EICS for some states in Aus EICS. Get this process started as soon as possible. This is one of the most incompetent organisations in the world and held up her application by months.Whatever he does, tell him not to use IMR Medical as recruitment agents. They are little more than useless and will cause you much grief with outdated information etc and they dont really care where you get a job as long as they can place you somewhere. They also promise to negotiate the best deal for you; they dont negotiate at all and they dont advise you that its a raw deal. Contact me if you want more on this. Be wary of any recruitment agents I think. Use them, but do your own homework to back up what they say.In terms of salary package, pay a tax guy here to check it out first before accepting it. Hope this helps a little,Alan Edited February 15, 2007 by alanb
Pippa
Dear Cristel,I know that Ria is a General Practitioner and flew to Adelaide some time ago. Maybe she can help. Peepee is a urologist, but I am not sure whether they are still planning to move to Australia. I suggest you PM them to obtain more information.Good luck!Bye, Pippa!
