House Buying Dilemma!

HouseInOz

Recommended Posts

WE have our dream home under contract, BUT there is an empty block of land behind our house. We want to know what can be build on this land and what the building restrictions are. Plans have been submitted and approved but privacy laws prevent us from seeing the plans.

I honestly do not want to look for more houses, BUT we also do not want to make a very very expensive mistake.

Surely there must be somebody that can offer advice here?????????????????????????????????????  :( :( :(

Surely there must have been a period where these plans were available for public scruitiny? They cant just put up a "secret" building. Cant help you here from experience but it does sound silly. Go camp out at the planning department an stalk them!

Yeah agree, go the the planning department. There will be some sort of planning scheme in place for the suburb you are buying in. In the planning scheme the planners can tell you what the owner is allowed to construct on that property. Normally there is height restrictions, setbacks from boundaries, maximum 2 storeys etc. If it is a residential lot, then the house will look like something that is currently available in the neighbourhood.

But yeah...the planners will not give out any information or contact details of the owner.
