Hi everyone

Below is an Excel spreadsheet with which you can determine how much money you will have to live from during retirement. Your retirement capital comes from the 9% contribution that your employer makes towards your superannuation.

Click on "Enable macros" when opening the spreadsheet.

The following assumptions were made:

1. Work for 30 years, starting at age 25 and retire at age 55;

2. Salary is adjusted by inflation every year;

3. Constant inflation rate;

4. Constant investment growth rate;

5. Age at death is 85;

6. Number of retirement years is 30;

7. Retirement capital keeps growing at the investment growth rate;

8. The monthly retirement income is drawn from the retirement capital;

9. The monthly retirement income is adjusted by inflation every year;

9. The retirement capital is exhausted at death.

Just enter values for the starting annual salary, the inflation rate and the investment growth rate. The retirement capital (in TODAY's terms) will automatically be calculated.

Then click on the green button to recalculate the initial monthly retirement income (at the 1st month of retirement, in TODAY's terms).

A graph also shows how the retirement capital changes with time.

Please note that this is only a hypothetical situation under the assumptions made above. This does not take into account any bonuses, extra contributions made towards retirement, longer/shorter working/retirement years, etc. Changing jobs may also lead to bigger salary increases than inflation-adjusted salary increases.

Regards

Charl

PS - the program has been set to print on one (1) A4-page, in landscape mode.
