Visa 175 help please

Hi Everyone

We have been wanting to go to Oz for more than 2 years now. We signed up with an immigration agent, had a VERY bad experience and have now decided to do this alone. We have checked the Australian Immigration website and did the Visa Wizard. It now seems like we will be able to go on the Skilled - Independant (Migrant) Visa subclass 175.

Does anyone have more info for me on this please? How long does this visa normally take to be processed? Any other advice or assistance will be appreciated. It is scary doing this alone, anyone have any motivational tips for me please?

Barbara

Hi Barbara

It is not so scary doing the visa yourself if it is straight forward and there is nothing out of the ordinary. Do it online, it a very efficient system. Just follow the website and ask on the forum if you get stuck.

If you want a 175 then you have to prepared to wait a while. Ours took 2 years to grant.

You must consider the priority processing which currently is found here http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-ski...n/whats-new.htm

Why don't you look at the 176 state sponsored visas. This is the way to go these days as all the states are gearing up to release they State migration plans. You must do a bit of research an see which states sponsor the type of job you do and then apply for state sponsorship with them.

If you want to get there quick then the Employer nominated scheme is the fastest way to get to Oz but that means getting a job offer from that side which is not easy.

Hi

Thanks so much for the helpful info. Do you know if it is easy enough getting a state sponsorship? Do you first apply to the state and then apply for the visa? Sorry if I sound uninformed, but these visa are so confusing!

Really appreciate your help.

Hi..just my experience, but we did the whole process online, we followed the steps on the immi site and it was really easy. We went for a 175 because it cost the same as the other visas fee wise and we met the requirments. It also seems as though it can be tricky getting sponsership and then you still have to apply for PR anyway?? I could be very wrong here. Time wise, we were only held up by the home affairs when we tried to get unabridged birth certificates. But think it took 4 weeks to be assigned a case officer and then if we'd had all the papers it would have been instant..we were given I think 3 months to get the outstanding papers in..medicals etc and we sent in proof that we had applied for the certificates etc that took longer...didn't hear anything from them, then finally got the last papers in and voila! THREE days later we got our visa!!! bit of a shock but..we think they are pretty jacked up over there!

Good luck with it all

If you want to go for the 176 you need to get your nomination first. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-ski...-migration/176/

The different states have different requirements. So you must look at what suites you. Some require you bring a certain amount of money into the state for example.

You can always apply now for your 175 if you are ready, and see how it goes. If you get state sponsorship from somewhere you can always convert your application to a 176. That way you will not loose time waiting for the state sponsorship.

Here are the links to the different states. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-ski...-state-terr.htm

processing times http://www.immi.gov.au/about/charters/clie...r/visas/8.0.htm

All the best, and ask if you get stuck.
