Internet / mobile access - good deals and who to use Adelaide

Hello,

We have just less than 2 months until we leave. We need to look at our options of internet access and usage as well as which service provider to sue for our cellphone for when we arrive.

In South Africa I have a 3g card which has really come in handy, as we do not know where we will be settling in Adelaide yet, I would imagine this would be the best option when we get there?

Do you have to sign a contract or is there "pay-as-you-go" Which service providers offer you the best value for money (internet and cellphone)?

Pay as you go = Prepaid in Oz :)

We found 3 to be good however if you go outside Metro areas Telstra is the way to go

$29 prepaid cap gives you $150 "Talk time" per 30days

Post paid $49 gives you $350 talk time incl max $100 to SA add $10 Int talk and get further $100 to SA

Usb modem on prepaid to start with is ok. Typically $179 for the modem $29 for 2gig lasting 30 days

Contract = Postpaid $39 per month. Free usb modem, 6gig per month

I also bought a wi-fi router which accepts the usb modem and then all the wi-fi devices throughout the house connects to it. Around $169 if I recall.

Hope it helps

Virgin Mobile has a 3G modem which has wireless built in, so you can connect up to three computers. The modem cost around $149 and you get various prepaid data packages. You walk into the shop, purchase the modem and sim card and 15 min later it is working. Link below:

Hi,

I am sure our mobile phone/internet arrangement is not the most economically out there, I should probably look again, but here it is

For my labtop, 5 gig internet per month, USB, Telstra $79 per month

At home, Optus, 120 gig internet, $50 local calls, and 3 hours international call, $80 per month (telephone line). Mobile phone prepaid, $30 per month (Optus).

Good luck, I hope your relocation to Adelaide goes well. I will gladly assist you if you get stuck in Adelaide.

My mates all use an Adelaide company called "Internode" for their internet and VOIP phone. They all live in the suburbs of Adelaide.

They have recently done away with paying Telstra up to $30 a month for just having a home phone that hangs on the wall hardly being used.

They now have "Node phones" that hook up thro the internet connection, having its own phone number, and the phone calls anywhere in Australia are just 10cents. . . . . a lot cheaper than before with the old Telstra home phone on the wall.

Their internet connection is also ADSL2+ so they are getting really fast connection speed and the monthly costs are reasonable.

I live up in the Adelaide Hills and cannot get Internode so have to go with Telstra for my mobile phone and internet connection . . . . costly, but good.
