Does anyone know of any other successful websites that someone like me can try to

find employment?

i have already tried these :

Australian Job Search - the largest job site in Australia

CareerOne - "Find the One"

Hays Specialist Recruitment - Australia & New Zealand (+ salary survey)

MyCareer - "Simply Jobs"

Seek - "Australia's #1 Job Site"

Thanks again

Also search newspapers(national and local Oz), council websites and State websites.

Also recruitment / job agencies. Will try to post all the links I have. Other idea is to look in their info pages on businesses in towns / yellow pages and start emailing..

One of the most depressing thigs i ever did was internet job searches and dealing with recruitment agencies, they only account for a small proportion of the job market and are over subscribed. There is a huge "hidden job market" but you need to be here to tap into it,

I arrived in Sydney 6 years ago with a wife and a 8 month old and no job, got a job in a fast food place pay was lousy but could live on it, found a second job making and delivering sandwiches, once you start meeting people they tell you about jobs going next thing I am now in Perth with a dream job.

It takes time and patience and yes you might have to drop your standards initially and do stuff that in SA terms is below you but its worth it in the end.

Companies that use employment agencies give the agency a detailed description of what they want the detail might include stuff like a diploma and 5 years experience, the agency rejects you if you have a degree and 5 years experience or a diploma and 6 years experience, they more often than not try and best fit what the company was asking for, this is usually as a result of an office junior being given 200 applications or resumes and a job description / requirement from the company, so invariably there is little thought put into the process especially for run of the mill jobs.

Companies often also like some commitment from you before they offer you the job and if you are local it makes the process easier, it is a good idea to look at specific companies that you would like to work for and do a direct approach you will get better results, at present in Western Australia unemployment is 3% and the unemployed are those who do everything in their power to avoid work, to qualify for the dole they have to show that they are trying to get a job so the arrive at interviews late and badly dressed etc.

But unless you have a very specific qualification or are applying for a very high powered CEO type job beware of job searches it is depressing expecially since for any given job there might be a few hundred hits world wide and the unfortunate thing is that 99.9% of these hits are people fishing....... makes the agent job hard and i think they tend to often ignore overseas applications

Hope this helps you. If you can get over here with a visa its best to find anything to put bread on the table and then job search for something you are qualified for and that appeals to you, you will also be in a better position to negotiate a better deal.
