Riaan
Hi,I have a PR visa and plan to settle in Australia in the next 6 months. I was thinking of trying to organise as much as possible before landing in Australia (i.e medicare, bank accounts etc.) I took a look at the enrolment form for medicare, but it seems as if you need to supply residence documents, which tells me that you can only apply for this once you reside in Australia? Other topics posted in these forums does suggest that you can apply for medicare before arriving though. How do you go about doing this, as I'd like to have medical cover for the kids once we arrive? and What else can you apply for, before arriving? Thanks for your advice. Kind regardsRiaan
Ajay
Hi Riaan,First of all, congratulations on your PR Medicare only takes a few minutes to get going, so there is no need to apply in advance. When you get here, simply go into any Medicare office with your passport, showing your PR visa, and you are enrolled on the spot. Even if you don't make it in and God forbid, need to see a medical professional in an emergency, you can do that, and simply show the hospital your passport with the residency visa. They will submit directly. Or if you pay upfront, then go to Medicare afterwards and enrol, submit the receipts and you will get a refund.Good luck - hope it all goes smoothly!Ajay
