Just do a search on the australian e-bay. There is a e-bay shop that just sell batteries. They are much cheaper than the OEM's.

Thats what I did and had it in 3 days.

I agree - Ebay for sure.

There are plenty of laptop battery sellers from Hong Kong/China that ship to Australia within a few days. I bought a spare for my Dell Latitude recently - for about half the price of an Austrlalian one. The trick is to buy from a proven seller that has a lot of positive feedback, regardless of where they are from.

If you need to buy in RSA, then you can call DWPC: 0215102260. They are at Unit 21 M5 Freeway Park, Camp Road Maitland. They provide Makro with laptops and stock. You will however get it cheaper on eBay, if you find trustworthy supplier.

Also bought a Toshiba battery some time ago from an online resource. About half the price than local in SA. Only problem I had is the laptop didn't want to boot up with the battery most of the times, but once started on mains, it would work fine off the battery.

When i bought my Fujitsu Siemens the agent was in Midrand

I bought a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo battery from Top battery. It had a higher capacity than the orignal. Orignal was dead in a year (Bought from Makro before we migrated) Best to get number off the battery and search for that. The replacement is still Ok 4 years later.

ebay from Hong Kong vs Australia. Hong Kong etc will normally charge shipping (very high cost) but others are free. Go with high rating as suggested if you buy on eBay

batteries bought in Australia are easier to change if they are bad or wrong type

I have bought many batteries on ebay and from Aus suppliers. Camera laptop Mobile Phone etc and the best quality alway cost a little more.

GOEDKOOP IS ... IMHO

Biker (sorry to go off topic Jenn). All Li-Ion battieries in laptops etc have a smart circuit. Li-Ion batteries very easily overcharge and get damaged. The smart circuit prevents this by shutting the laptop off when they get discharged to much and also stop charging when they are full.

BUT, these circuits draw current all the time enen whne a battery is not in the unit providing power. In many of the newer laptops there is a software utility to RECALIBRATE the smart circuit in the battery. Some need complete discharge, recharge discharge recharge to clear the SMART circuit. My new laptop has this and it took a while to find it.

My old laptop the Fujitsu does not have this but the PC will start up without mains charger, but will not start on charger always. A few cycles fixes it, but at 6 years it may be time for a new laptop

Hi,

Thank you so much for all the valuable info and links.

I've asked for some quotes and will check if cheaper to get in SA or Australia.

LeeInOz: Also got my Fujitsu Siemens from Makro and battery life wasn't long. It currently doesn't hold charge at all, completely dead, shuts down as soon as switched on and only works when put on mains. It gets frustrating when need wireless at coffee shop that doesn't have power points.

Hi LeeInOz,

I also suspected it must be something like you mentioned. I've looked everywhere at the time but to no avail. Laptop got stolen anyway, so good luck to the thief (as the power supply was not in my bag when it got stolen).
