Hey there Sydneysiders

We will be arriving in Syds on Wed 21/03/2007 and leaving 01/04/2007. I have a few questions and hope some of you might be able to help. :D

  1. Nice place to stay in the Hills District that won't break the bank :(
  2. What would you recommend doing and seeing in Syds. Taronga Zoo on top of my list. Can't wait to take some nice pics.
  3. We would really like toe experience the Hillsong Church, anybody that goes to the Hills one that would like to joing us 25/3/07?
  4. Any forumites that would like to meet up for coffee/tea? Would love to meet some of you?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We have been to Brissie already and would like to experience Sydney.

Cheers

D

Hi Dedrei,

Sien baie uit ! :lol::lol::lol:

Lovies, Pippa ! X

Hi there

Would love to meet up with both of you. Maybe we can do a BBQ or meet at one of the beaches, give me a pm just before you leave and I can give you my numbers. I have lots of SA friends on the North Shore so there is no shortage of great company.

Some ideas to do - 2 days in the city, Opera House, Botanical Gardens, Zoo could catch ferry to Manly

1 day HIlls area

1 day North Shore

West Head

Manly, North Head

Palm Beach

Claireville Beach

Have fun

Hi D

We were over in Sydney in August last year to look around, luckily I have family there so we didn't need accomodation. I will be honest with you, the Zoo was not that impressive....didn't get to see much of the Australian animals and most people seemed to be there to see the african animals...eg girrafe, zebra

We did manage to find a place up North (just outside Hornsby) called Koala Sanctuary....that was amazing, got to touch the animals and spend time in the kangaroo enclosure. It was also very reasonably priced. We were also impressed with Darling Harbour, and Paddy's Market (if you looking for reasonably priced gifts)

I believe the Blue Mountains is amazing, although we never got there...look out for specials on the train that include a day trip out to the blue mountains....think it was around $40 per person, but that was from Chatswood where we were staying.

Where about are you looking to settle in Sydney??

Hi Dedrei

Here's the link to the Koala Park in The Hills http://www.sydneyhillsaustralia.com/direct...ils.asp?ID=2701 . This is a smallish park so if you don't have much time, but want to see most of the Aus animals, this park is the one.

Featherdale Wildlife Park is also great and they allow you to hold the koalas and have your photograph taken with them. Featherdale is quite a bit bigger and if you have time to spend half a day there, this is a good one.

I agree with Australian, a visit to the Blue Mountains is worth a visit. For you coming from Cape Town, don't expect it to be like that mountain! It is totally different with a beauty all of its own.

A trip on the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly with a walk and a lunch or dinner at the cafes along the beach could also be interesting http://www.manlyweb.com.au/.

There are also harbour cruises that show the harbour lights, harbour bridge, opera house and there are lunch and dinner cruises and also a show boat. Look at these websites

Geez, thanks gals!!!

I think I have seen enough aussie wildlife to last me a lifetime. :ilikeit: Main reason for visit to Taronga Zoo is to see some african animals. Nothing in the world can compare and I love photographing them. This is where my passion for photography started and my heart will always be with african wildlife. Been 9 months since I have taken some decent wildlife pics, as I was able to take photos almost every weekend in SA, I really miss it.

Anyhoo, thanks for all the links, will definitelyl do some research.

If African animals are what you are looking for you need to go to Dubbo (inland New South Wales, about 400kms from Sydney). There is a a wildlife park called Western Plains. I have not been there personally, but have heard a lot about it. From what I've heard it is more like a small game park where the animals are in larger enclosures rather than cages. Here's a link to both Taronga and Western Plains http://www.zoo.nsw.gov.au/content/view.asp?id=40

WOW!!! Thanks SAS. :) This seems like the ideal thing, only thing is it is pretty far.

Countrylink has bus service to there for $160 for the two of us return. Then accommodation, at least the ticket price of $32 lets you gain entry for two days. That's cool!!

Anybody been there already?

These prices sound pretty reasonable! Accommodation can't be that much if you book a motel through www.wotif.com.au.

If you visit, you need to give us a write-up on the forum of what you found.

Thanks SAS will definitely do that.

Mara, have just seen this zoo on one of the channel's program Zoo Crew over the weekend. Totall blew me away. And SA tourism seems to be a big sponsor of the program, how weird is that.

We have been there twice, and both times it really made us think we were back in Africa. It is not a zoo that you walk about in, you get into a "safari bus" and they drive you around the grounds, stopping often for photo opportunities, however, you are never allowed out of the bus.
