Looking for PCMI USB

Hi,

The printer USB cable was connected to laptop when lightning struck and damaged the USB port & printer power unit. Was told that buying a PCMI USB may allow the use of USB again. Incredible Connection, Makro, Game don't stock these anymore.

Anybody know who still sell them in SA or is it easier to get them in Australia? Please assist.

Thanx.

Hi Jennifer

Did the laptop USB port or the printer USB port blow?

If the laptop USB ports blew then I think they meant a PCMCIA card for the laptop?

You might find some on Ebay, check what type of PCMCIA card is required it will either be a regular PCMCIA or the express PCMCIA type.

See http://www.shopfloorautomations.com/serial...top_oveview.php

At least if you buy them in Aus you'll be sure to get them without someone in the post office in South Africa 'borrowing' them.

Richard

Hi Richard,

Printer power unit/transformer is gone completely and was told R800 for replacement which we didn't bother as can get a new printer by adding a few more Rands.

The laptop USB port not working and you are correct I need a PCMCIA card.

There are so many types, sizes and brands that is mind boggling.

One company in SA suggested the following.

Hi Jennifer

The item suggested by prophecy should be OK, if your laptop takes that type of card.

Confirm the size of the PCMCIA slot on your laptop.

The problem with prophecy is they don't have the card in stock so call them and ask the lead time.

If they can get it and it correct, go for it.

Ebay is a bit of gamble in terms of it ever making it to SA but definitely an option when you get to Aus.

Richard

Matrix - fourways@matrixwarehouse.co.za

We do sell the PCMCIA usb card. The RSP is approx R 349 to R 499. The price various from make and model. Stock delivery 11 Jan.

Most of the above companies sell online so they don't keep the stock and order upon request. I'll try Matrix as they said to bring the laptop so hopefully they will check that other internal parts of the laptop isn't fried and the PCMCIA will fit and work. All seem to sell Sunix.

Will have to take the chance as if all fails not worthwhile the expenses to repair laptop but to invest on a new one. Have a Dell Latitude D600 with PCMCIA slot - width 6cm.

Hi Jennifer

That is good of Matrix to offer to do that.

Go with them they are the best option.

Dell have very good prices in Aus if you need a replacment.

Hope the laptop is not too fried...

Hi Richard,

Matrix came back to us on 13 Jan that they got the Sunix CBU3200E - 3xusb2.0 for RSP R399.

We took laptop to try it and it worked :) but the PCMCIA was cracked. The guy said he will have to order another one.

Decided to go with ZAPS as exactly same PCMCIA as Matrix when looked at the code, brand on website and they were the cheapest from the rest like for like.
