I need short term, prerably furnished for 2 weeks in January. I need to come to Melbourne (1 person) on my own before my family and I relocate to Adelaide.

I'm also going for a few weeks at the beginning of the year and hotels seem so expensive. Even in SA I always try and find good value in someone renting out furnished houses in the suburbs for a holiday. I'm not sure if this is what you are actually looking for but I've found this website that lists a couple of this kind of properties which are all furnished and self catering.
