sonnetjie
JohanI’m not a burger person so I suggest you have a look athttp://www.hungryjacks.com.au/Home.aspxMacDonalds http://www.oporto.com.au There are so many to choose from. I prefer Thai, or Sushi or Vietnamese rice wrap or Indian. We do all our grocery shopping at Woolworths & Coles or at the local http://www.harrisfarm.com.au or through http://www.lettucedeliver.com.au/ You can buy all your meat at Coles or Woolworths. Have a look at http://www.woolworths.com.au/ or http://www.coles.com.au/ Franklins is also very popular for groceries http://www.franklins.com.au/ I have heard that people also like Aldi http://www.aldi.com.au/ have not seen them around Sydney. There are a large variety of Dairy products in OzCostello or King Island Dairy is a great brand for brie or camembert Coon Tasty Cheese is very popular for everyday cheese. The quality of the cheese is pretty good you could easily choose from more than 10 different sweet milk cheeses. Australia imports a large quantity of cheese and makes its own as well. You can pretty much buy anything as long as you prepared to pay for it. We buy Cappra cheese it’s a lactose free goats cheese made by Delre in Holland.Regarding movies you can have a look at the following linkshttps://www.greaterunion.com.auhttp://hoyts.ninemsn.com.au/http://www.dendy.com.au/For books I would say Borders or Dymocks Booksellers or Amazon.com Your book interest would pretty much determine the speciality store that you visit. Just google it.The Sydney Eats http://www.sydneyeats.net.au/ is very popular and it is always good to have copy handy when picking a restaurant. Riekie
No fastfood burger here comes close to Steers...... (Good news is that Steers have Australian outlets in their near future plans!!! ) In the Hills & Surrounds, this is where you can get a mean burger: Casbah & Cafe Sul Point (Both in Castle Towers Shopping Centre), Platinum Bar & Grill (Maqcuarie Shopping Centre) You can get a burger & fries from Hungry Jacks (Aus version of Burger King) from $1.95 (kid's size) or 2 Whoppers with cheese (they're huge!!) from $4.74 Movies are on average $13 a ticket but you get special days where you only pay $10 or sometimes $8 a movie..... Pizza outlets: Pizza Hut, Dominoes Pizza and a few other smaller outlets. You can buy a large pizza from $6.95 but that's the most basic ones and pick-up only. You get "meal-deals" consisting of a large pizza, 1.25litre coke and garlic bread from $17.95 delivered.Chicken: KFC, Red Rooster & Nando's. A Chicken burger @ KFC is a $4.95 and a 3-piece meal deal is $6.95Book prices: On average a decent book will set you back around $20 - $30. Children's Literature averages on about $10 - $15. Travel Books, Coffee Table books etc starts at about $25 and go way up..... My favourite bookstore is Borders (much like Exclusive Books but on steroids! ). Then there's Angus & Robertson (a bit pricey.....) & Dymocks (limited range....)Dairy Products: We mainly buy either Dairy Farmers or Pura. Cheese, we buy mainly Devondale and sausages, salami & such, we buy Hans or Primo - I'm VERY fussy and will not even eat a sausage in a hot dog at a take-away..... I'll only eat Hans sausages We shop at Coles & Woolworths. It is very frustrating that they don't both stock all the stuff we buy (brands...) so I usually buy from both. On an average basket/trolley, the are more or less the same as far as price goes. Both have weekly specials which is really much cheaper than the usual price, so if you want to save, you can shop around and buy bulk when they have their specials.Hope this helps...... sa2auz
Oh golly of all the things I have missed Steers is way up there. Anyone willing to smuggle one through customs for me. The variety of take aways here is just uncomprehensable it would take me many years to try it all, and considering I have just watched the final of the biggest loser best I stay away. sonnetjie
If you into indoor climbing you possibly would like the following linkshttp://www.climbfit.com.au/http://www.edge-adventure.com.au/http://www.climbing.com.au/directory/direc...p?page=gyms.htmFor those of you that might be interested in more of a local perspective on Australian news it is worthwhile subscribing to the The BulletinFrom a Australian financial perspective I suggest have a look at the BRWor Money Management or Australian Financial ReviewIf you enjoy cooking I would suggest the Australian Gourmet Traveller or Delicious Magazine From a more practical side the The Sydney Seafood School does cooking classes that are heaps of fun and is a great activity to do with a heap of friendsBest way to make friends I would say is to get connected in your local church, or in one or other club or craft group. How do you find out about different clubs ? Through your local library or google it or the local community centre. Johan Swanepoel
Nice to see Nando's is there and hopefully a Steers soon. It is also nice to see that I am not the only fussy person. We only use Clover :-) The Seafood School looks interesting. Nadia and I also do photography so we will definitely join a photography club. Thanks for all the information, I am sure it will help us settle down much faster when we get there.
