Hi

So ons kyk na regional visa (victoria or south australia).

Groete

Aniena

Hello Aniena

I only know about the steps required for sponsorship by Victoria...

The first thing she will need to do is get her teaching qualifications assessed by "Teaching Australia" (see http://www.teachingaustralia.edu.au/ta/go/home/pid/418). Part of that process will require that she sits the IELTS (compulsory for all teachers to do it and the minumum mark is the highest required - 7). That whole process took me about 4 months.

Next she will have to have her qualifications assessed by Victoria Institute of Teaching (see http://www.vit.vic.edu.au). That process takes about 2 months (the post office is very slow).

Once she has both of those she can apply for either STNI (State/Territory Nominated Independent Visa) or a SIR (Skilled Independent Regional) visa from the Victorian government depending on her specialisation and where there is a need. Lots of info on options and the steps involved at http://www.liveinvictoria.vic.gov.au.

Hope that helps...

Hi Aniena

What sort of work is your skoonsis doing? Primary? or Secondary? and has she much experience . . or is it just 18 months so far?

From memory, I don't believe that you need to do the IELTS if you wish to teach in South Australia or Queensland. Just check on that.

The IELTS was a requirement set by NOOSR (who used to do the teacher qualification assessments for general skilled migration before Teaching Australia) - I assume that Teaching Australia will insist on the same.

Despite having majored Cum Laude in English and taught English, they still insisted that I sit the exam (there was another post by another teacher a few weeks back about this too - name and post escapes me).

The individual Education departments in each state differ in their requirements for registration but all of them seem to insist on your teaching qualifications be recognised by Teaching Australia as a first step...

But I did mine a couple of years ago, so the rules may have changed.

Hi Bob

My suster in law (skoon sussie) has just relocated back from Swaziland where she taught for 8 years, and one year as a private teacher to pupils that required additional tutoring outside the school situation. She is currently looking for employment. She is a qualified primary school teacher with 16 years experience.

She is looking for a regional position in south australia or victoria.

Thank you for all the replies

Regards

Aniena and Kerry (skoonsus)

IELTS and teaching qualification recognition?

Ha! This has just set me back 3 months and a whack of SA rands.

I queried this with a nice lady at Teaching Australia and as understanding as she was, she pointed out that things in South Africa have changed so much (for the worse I believe we must read between the lines...) that they have decided that across the board all professions must write it.

Now I've got over the frustration, I also know it is a pre-requisite for many other things in the paperchase.

Remember that it will be something that could be used for other job applications.

Tracy, you don't have to write IELTS if your skills are assessed by the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia (TRB). I think Qeensland TRB has the same ruling at the moment. Look at their websites and follow link to "Overseas Teachers". They recognise South African Teaching Qualifications and English even if you did your training in Afrikaans. We are accepted by them along with a few other countries. We followed that process a year ago and it is still the same. This will enable you to start looking for jobs and register. It is not the normal direct Permanent Visa Route via "Teaching Australia" but will allow you to use a 457 visa option when you are sponsored by a school. Focus on Regional Areas and you may even get a RSMS sponsorship this way. Unfortunately not even our Migration Agent knew this at the time we applied and I did it on my own and was successful. When we applied for our RSMS it never even came up once that we had to do IELTS and it was approved.
