Pick a Visa

Hello everyone,

We need help, please!! Gonna keep this short and sweet! Option 1 - PR / 136 visa, no go, not enough points. Option 2 - 495 SIR Visa, can do but must wait about 9 months for visa, no guarantee offered and cost alot of dollars. Option 3 - Granted sponsorship through a sponsoring company for a 457 visa, but must find own job. Sent out emails applying for jobs, and sent out some more emails, and..... oh yes...... sent out some more. We wait. And we worried we not gonna get a job this way.

Ok, now the question is, which is better, the 495 or the 457? On a 495 visa, do we still have to find a job before we can go? We have set the date for the end of March 2007 to be in Oz, but we need to have valid visas/paperwork and a job in order to do so. Hubby is in the telecommunications industry.

We feel like we have hit a dead end and it's so frustrating. Hope u guys can help, and all input is highly appreciated.

Hi Didi,

Good to see you around again. With regards to applying for jobs - try and identify some employers in the right field, and then get up early a few mornings and phone them directly. With email, you're just another electronic piece of information - you are far more interesting in person:-) Also speak to some of the big recruitment agencies and explain that you have a sponsor already secured through a mangement company. As a final suggestion, if you can afford it, you might want to consider coming out here to be able to go to interviews (don't do this for agencies though - only for employers). When you call them, it gives you much more credibility to be able to tell them that you are coming over for interviews, and already have a sponsor lined up. My sister did this, came out for a week, and managed to secure a really good job offer. If you can afford it, it's worth the money. However, if you can't do this, don't lose heart! I got my job long distance after applying online - so it is possible!
