JacoE

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I need some input from anybody who has had to get a Recognition of Prior Learning from the ACS (Aus computer society).

If any of you has had to do the RPL please let me know, I'd like to talk.

Hi Jaco,

we wrote our RPL two years ago. I'll be happy to help where I can. PM me your email address and I'll also send you a copy of some helpful info I've gathered on the internet on RPL.

Cheers, Sam

Hi JacoE

This is your lucky day. That is how I was assessed by ACS and I live in Centurion!!!!!! I will gladly help out where I can.

It's allot of work but well worth it. You need to write the RPL and 2 Project reports. Plus the additional stuff like ref letters and curriculum layouts. On what skill are you going to apply on I applied for the "2231-17 Application and Analyst Programmer" it took me about 3 months to complete the Documents and about 3 months for the outcome of the Skilled assessment.

If you need any info please PM me and if I can help I would be glad to.

Cheers

Hi JacoE

My kwalifikasies is as Elektronies (Spesialisasie rekenaars) Ingenieur aan Tuks.

So:

2) Sal ACS verwag dat ek 'n RPL moet doen a.g.v. 1).

Groete,

Hi Alwyn

Here is my 2c worth. I applied under the 2231-17 Application and Analyst Programmer category using the RPL route and received a positive assessment.

As I understand it ACS validates your assessment against their 14 points of CBOK whether or not you have a degree .

CBOK is a guideline that states that all valid IT qualifications must cover the following 14 points:

1 Computer Organisation and Architecture

2 Conceptual Modeling

3 Database Management

4 Data Communications and Networks

5 Data Structures and Algorithms

6 Discrete Mathematics

7 Ethical / Social Implications / Professional Practice

8 Interpersonal Communications

9 Program Design and Implementation

10 Project Management & Quality assurance

11 Security

12 Software Engineering and Methodologies

13 Systems Analysis and Design

14 Systems Software

So here is what I think, if you can prove that your Electronic (Specialisation Computers) Engineering degree covers the above mentioned criteria you would not have to go the RPL route. But if you are having problems covering all 14 point of CBOK with only your degree then you should consider the RPL.

Please remember that this is only my understanding of the ACS assessment process and I could be wrong. Just to be on the safe side I would have an Initial Consolation with an immigration agent just to sort that part out as this is probably the biggest and most important part of the Skilled Migration Process.

Hope this helps

Regards

Rudi

Hi Alwyn

As I understand from the ACS assessment they only provide you with a Yes or a No answer so no they will only asses you on the documents provided and not give you feed back on your results as to why if No.

I had a friend that applied with the Accountancy body and they did give him feed back as to what subject he needed to complete before they would give him a positive assessment, so it seems that some of the bodies do give you feed back.

Please see the following from the ACS site for guidelines on how you should apply https://www.acs.org.au/assessment/docs/Curr...MGuidelines.pdf

"Applicants who apply to ACS for assessment will receive one of two advices:

the applicant’s skills are suitable for the nominated skilled occupation applied for, or

the applicant’s skills are unsuitable for the nominated skilled occupation applied for. "

Hope this helps

Rudi

Hi Alwyn

My man is in presies dieselfde bootjie as jy.

PM hom gerus by:

heinrichjf@gmail.com

Hy sal jou beslis kan help.

Groete

Hallo almal

Ek is nuut by die forum (eintlik nuut by enige forum). Ek en my vrou wil asap Aus toe emigreer.

Hi Tjaart

Welcome to the Forum this is the best one I have found and I subcribe to allot of them. There is tons of information available here and always a helping hand.

As far as I know you don't need to follow the RPL route as you already have a degree. Just make sure about if you need to go the RPL route I would definitively investigate that before starting on the RPL route.

As for the info in the RPL give as much details that you possibly can, you must understand that this is all they have to rate you on.

If you need some more info on the RPL please don't hesitate to PM me. I will gladly help where I can.

Cheers

Rudi

Question is how do you find out if you require the RPL or not?

Do you try your luck, pay the $350 and then when they decline saying you need the RPL, pay the $450 and then do the RPL?

In my case I have an Electronic Engineering degree with a specialization in Computer Engineering. I had specialization subjects like Artificial Intelligence, Computer Architecture, etc.

Hi Alwyn

my understanding is that RPL is for those that do not hold a degree but have experience in an industry.

I would imagine you need to get your qualification accessed and that is you.
