Alternatives to living in Adelaide

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I saw an advertisement for a position in Whyalla? This got me thinking...

Has anyone got any opinion on Whyalla or alternatively any alternative places to Adelaide to consider living in South Australia. My wife and I won't mind living in the "platteland" (rural area). Our kids (19 months and 6 months old) are stil very young.

Please let me know what you think?

Kind regards,

Dries

Hi Dries

Outside of Adelaide the two next biggest towns are Mount Gambier (Population approx 24,000) and Whyalla (Population approx 23,000).

Whyalla is located on the coast on the Eyre Peninsula and is about a five hour drive from Adelaide. The focal point of whaylla is the OneSteel Whyalla Steelworks. The coastal area around whaylla is very pretty. There is quite a lot of polution though from the OneSteel Steelworks and some of the roads are sometimes covered with a fine covering of red dust. Housing much more affordable than in Adelaide. Google " Whaylla SA" for info on Whyalla,

Mount Gambier is about the same distance from Adelaide and is South of Adelaide on the limestone coast and within easy drive of the sea/coast. Predominantly farming community although Scotts Transport have their headquarters in Mount Gambier. Famous for it's Blue Lake. Google "Mount Gambier" for info on Mount Gambier.

Port Lincoln located at the "bottom' of the Eyre Peninsula is also a beautiful coastal town - large fishing industry

The Riverland area (on the Murray river about 250Kms from Adelaide) is a beautiful area to live in. The main towns of Wakerie, Loxton, Berri and Renmark are all located on the banks of the Murray River and offer a great "platteland" living environment. The food bowl of Australia with vineyards, olive groves, citrus and armond orchards streching for miles.

Enjoy your research.
