NAL
Hi All NewbiesJust a friendly reminder that DST starts this Sunday (5 October 2008). See links belowhttp://www.vic.gov.au/Victorian-Daylight-Savings-Dates.htmlhttp://www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/Lawlink/cru/..._daylightsavinghttp://wa.gov.au/daylightsaving/http://www.safework.sa.gov.au/show_page.js...%26%28saving%29http://www.cmd.act.gov.au/holidays....and no you don't have to get up at 2:00am on Sunday morning to change your clocks (and watches) one hour forward, the convenient way is to set your alarm an hour earlier from your normal wake up time on a Sunday...then change the time one hour forward...that way you will be on par with the rest of AusBTW...you will never recover from this one hour sleep loss until DST ends...Don't feel left out if you are in Brisbane/QLD.....I am lead to believe (from work colleagues in NSW and VIC) your'll are about 5 years (progress wise) behind the other States....so it does not matter that QLD does not have any DST NALPlease don't shoot the messenger!!! wazzie
Hi All NewbiesJust a friendly reminder that DST starts this Sunday (5 October 2008). See links belowHi NalNo, we are not 5 years behind the other states. We do not believe in DST as it apparently confuses the cows in the milking sheds or something. Therefore, out of environmental consideration we do not fell it necessary to follow the other states and territories like sheep on this issue. However, it would be too good to have that extra hour in the arvo for golf, fishing, lying around the pool...... Maybe oneday.
Bob
So . . . the real answer up there, in Bananaland (Queensland), is that the cows come into the milking sheds at the same time. . . . . . and all these years I thought it was because the curtains faded quicker up there with the extra hour of daylight! Gee, I'm dumb.
wazzie
Hi BobYeah. I forgot about the curtains and the kids that don't go to sleep or wake up or whatever. Anyway we had a TV poll here last night and 52% of respondents voted in favour of DST. The other 48% must either be dairy farmers or own expensive curtains.Do you ever get to Brissie? I would love to have a barbie and a few beers with you. I you talk as well as you write, i think you would be great company.
DKH
Hi there,OK, so help me out here...If my ticket that was booked in Sept says I land at 14H55 on 18 Oct in Sydney, do you think they calculated the DST in?Or will I get off the plane thinking it is 3pm while the rest of the city is ahead of me, i.e. what time must the guys come to pick me up 3pm / 4pm?Cheers,DKHP.S. Wazzie, why don't you guys hang the expensive curtains in the milking shed to confuse the cows, then the rest of QLD can have DST? (I think DST would be something like Daylight Stealing Time here in Jo'burg...)
wazzie
Hi DKHGood idea about the curtains - but since the last post I have realised that most Queenslanders have blinds which they leave closed all day to keep out the sun, so that blows the theory about expensive curtains. This whole DST debate is all too political for me!!Good luck with the flight next week.Hope you are going to be happy here.CheersWazzie
