Marina van Zyl
Hey SheyenneFrom our own experience, I consider the 457 option the fastest way to get to Oz. (and if you are lucky the company will even pay for everything, from your visa application to your flights) It took us about 3-4 months to get our Visa's and book our flights. It might be worth it to have a look at current job opportunities on www.seek.com.au. Or if you go on to Sydney Morning Herald's website www.smh.com.au they advertise some positions there. You should also apply for your passports and unabridged birth certificates ASAP. Good luck and keep on reading this forum!Regards,Marina

Sharon
Hi SheyenneWelcome to the forum. Beware, you'll become addicted like the rest of us.I would suggest you first do the online test (on the immi website as mentioned by J&J) to see if you have enough points, then go on a 457 (sponsored visa) if you don't.Good luckSheila

I hope this will help and if you need to - contact me! I had to assess my skills (RPL), went for the IELTS in JHB and wil get a sponsor from NSW state because of my profession (Project Manager / Systems Manager) and will have to work in NSW for 2 years but will have PR soon. After that we intend to move to Brisbane. I did all the immigration stuff myself with help from my consultant. She provided advice and I did all the paperwork. The checklist is a list I compiled by reading everybodies experience and adding my own.IMMIGRATION AUSTRALIA - JEAN EN ELAINE COETZEEVisit to Australia - take a look at all regionsVisit an Australian Expo Relook finances and repay debt/ save for the moveMIGRATION CONSULTANTSelect a migration agentSelect the correct VisaSkills Assessment / RPL [Australian Computer Society]IELTS TestPREPARE DOCUMENTATIONPassportsUnabridged Birth Certificates for all family membersUnabridged Marriage CertificateDischarge Certificate SANDFCollect references from all previous employers and certifyTranslate all Afrikaans documents to EnglishPolice Clearance [6 Months prior to departing]Medical Check Up [6 Months prior to departing]Immuniation Cards for Children [Ensure up to date]International Driver's License [AA in Menlyn]Get transfer cards from your kids' schools and their latest report cards or a progress reportGet reference letters from your kids' activities e.g. ballet report, etc Make copies of ALL important documents Update your will and leave a copy with a reliable friend/family memberREMEMBER TO DO THE FOLLOWINGTake the whole family for a medical check-up, have their eyes tested, go to the dentist, get that filling etc. Dental & optometry is very expensiveGet the contents of your medical files from all your doctors & specialists.
