Immigrating, Help!!!!

Howdy

We are a family of three, mom, dad and son, looking to immigrate to Australia (the sooner, the better, he he). I have heard that it's better to use an Australian Migrant Consultant rather then one in South Africa, which is best and where can i find one of those? Also, there is the option for Sponsorship. Would that be a better way to go? Maybe it would be quicker and easier and at least once we there we can then apply for our permenant residency. We are looking to move to Brisbane. My husband is 33 yrs old, and a Telecoms Specialist, I am 35 and a personnel consultant / secretary and our son is 6 yrs old. I have done alot of research but it all gets pretty confusing.

Thanks for all the help

Hi Didi and Family ~ welcome

First things first.

1. I can only talk for myself, when we came over to aus on a sponsored working visa (457) my dh's co used a migration agent and as we did not have the knowledge on processes etc it was best to use them.

2. "Also, there is the option for Sponsorship. Would that be a better way to go? Maybe it would be quicker and easier and at least once we there we can then apply for our permenant residency"

Yes it can be a quicker option to get you into the country. What you will need to be aware of is that if you apply ( excuse me here because we didnt go this way so I need back up from fourm members that may have) for say a 136 skilled visa that you will need to lodge your documents off shore and also that you will need to go offshore to received your PR visa e.g new zealand or where ever.

3. Depending on your ages this may be prudent from a points advantage to lodge your PR in SA .

4. What we did have the emense privelege (and I say this with extreme gratitiude and thanks) is that my dh's employer so very kindly did the employer nomination scheme pr visa which meant from the time we lodged for the ens to the day we recieved approval was exactly 29 days , Which I might add was done without a migration agent. What I will stress is if you do it yourself research all requested requirements from DIMIA thoroughly and also make sure that you have all the ticklist items provided. We also made sure that we had our medicals before they asked for them so this made no room for error on our part, which may have caused possible delays from DIMIAs end.

The reason why is have put no 4 in is to show that there are other ways to get different types of pr and this option which in our case depended on dh's employer was the quickest although we could have lodged as at time we had met the requirements on the 136 with points to spare.

Hope this helps

Dont take life too seriously, noone gets alive anyway~ anon

Hi

To get a sponsor is not easy but once you find a company that is willing to sponsor you it is much quicker, easier and cheaper to get there and like you said once you are there it is easier to get PR.

Play the numbers game and send out as many CV's as you can. Companies that are willing to sponsor advertise in SA rather than in Aus, so if you are looking for a sponsor go through SA websites daily.

If you are looking for a good agent, contact Stephanie Gray at Immigration Solutions Australia (ISA) in Perth. Her e-mail: stephanie@isa.com.au

She handled my application and there was no problems or delays, they obviously know what they are doing and to me it looked like they enjoy what they do.

Hi Didi,

One of the easiest fields to get a sponsorship in is as a Personnel COnsulant - don't ask me why! If you have 5 years exp, or a degree plus 3 years exp, do a search on Seek, and look for the rec2rec companies (recruitment to recruitment - they find recruitment consultants for the recruitment industry - go figure!!!!).

Some of the bigger names that I can think of are Marker Consulting and Rec2Rec, but there are more. Hughes might be one as well.

Good luck!

Hi Didi,

It is worth the shot to try and get sponsorship. We never though we would get it, but we tried, and here we are!

Even though you need to go offshore to get your PR visa in some cases, it is still an adventure. When you start earning dollars, it is not that expensive going to Bali or New Zealand for a while. You could even schedule your first visit "home" to coincide with this offshore period.

Keep trying, it is possible!

Dreamy

Hi Dreamy,

Just a question - my boyfriend and I are looking at doing that ourselves, may I ask what exactly you did to go about it?

Thanks

Hi Chandi,

We just spent a lot of time scouring the internet looking for all companies that have anything to do with hubby's line of work. We looked up their HR email, and sent a lettter with a shortened resumé attached. Quite a few came back to us, saying thanks, but no thanks. One of them forwarded our details to a sister company, and they sent it to another company, who eventually decided to recruit in SA. They then advertised in the Star, and we applied through their agent in SA, and got the job! After that the company takes over most of the visa related arrangements, and you only have your personal matters to conclude.

It was a lot of hard work, hours, days, weeks spent on the internet. Lots of disappointments, and long waits, but all worth it in the end. We also tried SEEK, but they were of no use to us. It was definitely better to contact the companies directly.

Good luck with the big search!

Greetings,

Dreamy
