I relied heavily on another forum when I was making my decision and it was invaluable to me. That's why I got involved in this one - to try and give something back to others. I also have 2 kids (13 and 10) and initially I was really worried about how they would adapt. Well, I shouldn't have worried - that adapt so quickly it's unbelievable! I can honestly say that I haven't regretted the move for one nano-second. That's not to say I haven't had bad days, when I miss the familiarity of the community that I lived in for so many years, but that can be built up again, can't it. Mens is maar bekommerd veral omdat jou kinders Afrikaans is en jy wonder of hulle ooit sal aanpas. (Skies, ek neem nou sommer aan is jy Afrikaans n.a.v jou van....) My dogter was 11 toe ons hier aangekom het, en sy was binne 3 maande weer op die vlak waar sy was op skool en het selfs die Aussies 'n ding of twee gewys! Welkom by die forum! Dit is nie jou "golden ticket" nie, jy moet weer 'n lewe vir jouself en jou gesin hier kom MAAK. Mens moet vreeslik baie prysgee in die proses en baie emosies en dinge deurmaak. As jou redes hoekom jy wil emigreer sterk genoeg is, sal jy dit maak deur al hierdie dinge en sal jy 'n beter & goeie lewe hier in Australië kan hê. Ons mis ons land en ons mense - maak nie 'n fout nie! Ons moes finansieel baie verloor en in baie opsigte ons lewe hier weer heel van vooraf begin: 'n huis huur (i.p.v. besit), weer gaan vir bestuurderlisensies, nuwe vriende maak ens. As ek dit weer moet doen, doen ek dit in 'n oogwink! Geen geld & besittings in RSA kan vir my die lewe gee wat ek nou het nie. Ons is gelukkig en ons het 'n toekoms. Dit klink nou of ek jou probeer ompraat of oortuig - (dalk is ek - ek kan nie help om opgewonde te raak oor ons lewe hier nie!) maar dit is nie 'n keuse wat mens sommer so maak nie - jy moet weet waarvoor jy jou inlaat: die emosies, hoe elkeen in jou gesin dit gaan ervaar, die stres tot jy daai visas in jou paspoort het, die groot oppak en trek, die afskeid, die verwyte, die finansiële impak & onkostes, die nie-weet wat hier op julle wag nie, onsekerheid, aanpassing, nie-hoort-nie gevoel ens. Ons ken persoonlik BAIE mense wat emigreer het (nie net na Aus nie, maar ook UK & Kanada) en van al daai het nog net 1 gesin weer terug gegaan (en ook net omdat die pos wat die man hier aangebied was deur die mat geval het en hulle nie geld gehad het om langer te bly nie - dalk met die teleurstelling saam, was dit 'n makliker uitweg om terug te gaan). Dus, statistiek sê jy doen die regte ding, maar dit hang van jou af of dit gaan wees. Wat julle ookal besluit - baie sterkte! Dink mooi en dink aan alles, dit is nie maklik nie, maar wel oor en oor die moeite werd. On is uiters gelukkig hier. As jy seker is, begin die proses. Jy het basies 2 keuses volgens my kennis, 136 visa, vat langer maar jy land met PR. Dan die 457, jy kan binne 3 maande in Aussie wees, MAAR jy MOET eers werk kry en 'n sponsor he en dis tydelik Jy kan hier vir PR aansoek doen. In terms of area - each has it's ups and downs (Sydne is expensive, but is where most of the work is, for example) so focus more on moving wherever you can get a job.I think it's well worth your wife speaking to SAA to see if they could arrange a transfer. Wat ek met finansiële opofferings bedoel is dat jy al jou ZAR deur 5 moet deel as jy dit Aus toe bring, so jy het basies 'n 5de van wat jy in RSA bymekaar gemaak het in eiendom, bates ens. In daai opsig, begin mens in baie opsigte weer "voor" om bymekaar te maak, eiendom te koop ens. Ons het in RSA 2 eiendomme gehad - 1 heeltemal afbetaal en die ander een amper niks geskuld nie en hier is ons huurders. Dit wat jy in RSA gehad het, kan jy nie hier weer net so vervang nie. Eerstens is die ZAR amper waardeloos en Tweedens is eiendom - veral in Sydney, ongelooflik duur! Maand tot maand is ons beter af, maar dit wat ons besit is nou heelwat minder. Maar, ons is sterk oppad om weer daar te kom....... (Mens moet net nie onrealisties wees om te dink jy gaan uit jou 5 slaapkamer huis met swembad, lapa ens ens. in RSA uittrek en hier in Aus weer net so in enetjie intrek nie). My only regret is we waited so long, I guess we were in our comfort zone. Don't be mislead Australia is very different to South Africa. The bush, the beaches, the walks, the freedom, the people are really down to earth, no keeping up with the Jones' no one has asked us what we do or told us what they do - it just doesn't matter.Its an amazing feeling, not checking your backseats, not driving round the block and taking different routes home, the only stresses we have are is finding the venue for Saturday morning cricket and keeping up with the kids homework.Its wonderful here, don't give up, its well worth the stress.
