Hi

I've just read Michael's post with regards to difficulty of getting software for Aus for his Garmin - he threw it away and bought a Tom Tom! Isn't it possible to just download the software from the Garmin website. Does anyone have any information on this?

Thanks

Sheila

All you do is contact GME electrophone once here. Ask them to post the version you need to an address. (This is free) THEN when you install it it will ask for a product key. You go to the Garmin website, pay the money and they will send you and unlock code.

The software for Australia is written by WHERE IS. The details of how to do this are on the Garmin website, as is the link to GME

Thanks Lee. Can I do it from SA on the Garmin website as my husband is coming over for a couple of days in Sept and won't have the time to sort it out once there.

hi

the best price i could get in South Afica for the Australian city navigator NT for my Garmin nuvi 360 was in the region of R5000

i orded it from Johnny Appleseed in Austarlia and had it sent to me in South Afica (jhb) total cost approx R2500 you then need to download the cd onto a memory card to fit into your Garmin unit

Hope this helps

Henry

Sheila to Aus, where is your husband headed to?

I am in Brisbane. I can get hold of them and find out what the disk will cost here, and send it where you need it. (Their website is in process of being reconstructed I see

The Garmin site has Aus maps for US$99 or US$149. Not sure what that is in AU but should be about 10% more.

Hi

I called Garmin Australia in Sydney for another Forumnite who was looking for Aussie maps for his Garmin NUVI 200 as a SD CARD, they quoted me

$279.00 for the Version 8 maps, and was recommended that he wait a few week as Version 9 is about to be released.

I then check with Johnny Appleseed and a new Garmin Nuvi 260 costs $345.00.

Seems crazy, sell you Gps in SA to a mate , and buy a new one in Oz with your warranty etc etc.

Thanks. I can't believe it's so expensive. I wonder how much a new one costs?? The Garmin only cost us about R3000 to start with.

Also did the research - R4800 was quote for Aus maps in SA (from distributor).

When on LSD also checked through GME, quote was ±$350.

I have a Zumo - also used on the bike thus it may be worth my while to buy there but if only for car use - buy a new Tom Tom XL there for less than $300.

MBS.

Hi!

I did lots of research and found the next offer from Kalahari.net by accident.

http://www.kalahari.net/electronics/City-N...0/30760717.aspx

It is the latest routable garmin maps for R1533.95!!!

Just don't buy all the units before I get a change to buy myself a copy!!

Hi Pieter

It seems to me that there are two different types of Garmin Maps - Australia Navigator and Australia Navigator NT. Unless I am mistaken, the one on Kalahari seems to be the one that is not for the Garmin Nuvi, which is what I've got. The Garmin link which gives a list of the products it's for is:

http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/citynavAUS.jsp

Perhaps you want to check it out before you purchase, just to be sure.

Cheers

Sorry about blank post, I will check it out thank you.

It looks like the non NT version is not for the 60 Csx but there is other versions it will work for.

From another forum I visit:

I found this the other day, free Garmin Topographic maps for the whole of Aus...

http://shonkylogic.net/shonkymaps/

http://www.gpsoz.com.au/tracks4australia/

Both the linked maps are free ... T4Australia is about 55M .. shonky comes with topo and non topo lines .. about 330M the way it is zipped. Both are good in the bush (away from the cities) ... they would be a guide only in the cities .. no auto routing.

You''ll find a comparision of the maps here http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=252946

Other free maps can be found at http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/catalogue.php but you will need to generate some files and do a registary edit before you can use them - they have good city maps for both Sydney and Melbourne.

** I have downloaded shonkymaps_3.51. It is 350MB. I am in Midrand if anyone wants a copy, but can't download.

Hi,

Should anyone have a Tom Tom this is what the OZ map cost us.

We have a Tom Tom One XL and bought the OZ map online from Tom Tom which cost me R1200-00. And an extra SD card.
