Guest San
HiI'm a wedding photographer and when we're in Oz I'll obviously would like to continue with my work, well it's not something that I can go and work for somebody else, so I'll need to start my own business again.Questions:1. Will I be able to do this if hubby is on a 457 visa?2. What is the procedure and can it be done from SA?

Enrica
SanIf you register as a sole trader you can 1) Trade in you own name , you then need a tax file number and an ABN(Australian Business Number)2) Trade in a name eg - Mermory Keepers Photos , you then need to register a business name, obtain a tax file number and an ABNThe following websites will be of some use to you:http://www.abr.gov.au/ABR_BC/ For an ABNhttps://bizline.docep.wa.gov.au/bnonline/ To register a business name - I think is costs about $110.00 http://www.ato.gov.au/ Australian Tax Office to obtain a tax file number I would suggest that you only register once you arrive in Perth, as all these departments require a local address and some require proof of identity.Registering a business name you can do in eprson and get your name on the same day. The tax file numbers and ABN can be done on line and normally you would receive the "numbers" in about 2 weeks.I would also suggest that you get some advice regarding your ABN, are you going to register to pay GST? If so you need to complete BAS every quarter etc.Perhaps consider speaking to an accountant regarding this.I would suggest that you contact one of the Migration Agents on the forum ie customeyers - she is based in Perth , just PM and get clarification that you can register a business whilst on a 457. I hope this is of some assistance.RegardsEnrica

Will I be able to do this if hubby is on a 457 visa?2. What is the procedure and can it be done from SA?Hi San,Please Private mail me. I’m also a wedding Photographer. You hopefully have heard of my production company trading under the name Frans du Plessis Productions. I have already set up a network in Perth. I'm doing my first few weddings in Nov 08 in Perth. Yes, you can set up a company from SA BUT one of the directors must be in Australia with address in Australia. I had a lot of help from my accountant. Worth paying them and getting it all setup correctly. (I can always provide you with my accountant’s details, he is in Subiaco Perth) I do not know about the 457 of your husband...I have also setup an agreement with another top Photographer coming to Perth in Jan 09. It helps to work together and build our network fast. Good Luck!PS: I'm landing 8th Oct
