World Youth Day (WYD) Celebrations

Springbok

Recommended Posts

From Tuesday 15 to Sunday 20 July, Sydney will play host to World Youth Day (WYD) celebrations. Up to 500,000 Australian and international visitors are expected to descend on the CBD, to take part in the largest youth event in the world.

Though no trouble is expected to be caused by attendees, a number of streets in the CBD will be closed during the week of celebrations. As well as road closures, the influx of people in the city centre is likely to cause disruption.

It is strongly recommended that travel to Sydney is avoided from 11 – 23 July inclusive. Flights and accommodation will be difficult to secure, and travel time likely to be greatly increased.

My daughter will be among those 500 000 people!

(without her Mom, too!)

I am so jealous - we have youth from our parish going. Unbelievable how an old guy in a funny hat (the Pope) can draw so many youngsters! Nothing against the so called 'super churches' that brag with 5000 members on a weekend, but kind of puts it into perspective. I am Catholic - Benedict Rocks! (pun intended)
