Shawny
Hot off the press! Regional Internet Australia is rolling out ADSL2+ to the majority of Townsville and Cairns, with many other regional centres on the drawing board.RIA already has six active exchanges in Townsville, and Cairns won't miss out either with 14 exchanges expected to be deployed there in the next three months. RIA hopes to have over 26 exchanges enabled by the end of the year which would make it the largest regional rollout of ADSL2+ in Australia. <snip>More info: http://whirlpool.net.au/article.cfm/1659Just decided to let you guys know, they seem quite alright too. Just a warning from myself and a few others. Be sure to ask them what contention ratios they put on the lines. This is basically how many people they shove onto a single ADSL line at any given moment, the more people on the line, the slower your connection will be on average. A decent contention ratio is between 20:1 and 30:1. Some small providers have been rumoured to run at about 40:1, which will have one nasty impact on your service, so make sure to check this out. And please do not sign any contracts! They will then lock you in for ages and if the service deteriorates to such an extent that the service is not usable, you have no leg to stand on and you will probably have to pay cancellation fees.Enjoy!Shawny
