Dedrei
Can someone please tell me how I can apply for a new passport at the Embassy. Tried phoning them, just got an answering service, tried email, yeah you guessed no luck there either. Can't find any info on the consulate website either? So where do I find the forms and where do I send them to and how much does it cost? Thanks guys
Dreamcatcher
Hi Dedrei, I just kept phoning untill I got hold of them. There is a guy named Daniel who works with the passport applications at the High Commision in Canberra. He only works untill 1pm. He will send you the correct forms. They do not answer emails, can you believe that? The cost for an adult tourist passport is $35 and you need to add a self addressed registered or express post envelope, or a courier bag.Greetings,Dreamy Edited August 9, 2006 by Dreamcatcher
Guest Jules
Hi Dedrei I had a look at the website. I am shocked at the processing time for passports and ID documents! 4-6 months for a passport and 6-9 months for an ID document or a birth certificate!! WOW! Just to compare, I am renewing my kids British passports at the moment. You can get all the forms and info on the high commission website, courier it to them and you will have it back in between 10 and 20 working days. Not sure if you have these contacts but I'll post them anyway. Hopefully you will get through to one of them: Australia (Commonwealth of) South African High CommissionRhodes PlaceState CircleYarralumlaCanberraACT 2600Tel: + 61 2 6273 2424-7Tel: + 61 2 6273 2424 (Trade) Fax: + 61 2 6273 3543Fax: + 61 2 6273 4994 (Consular)Fax: + 61 2 6273 6656 (Trade)E-mail:consular@sahc.org.au (Consular) Highcom@sahc.org.au (High Commissioner)info@sahc.org.au (Political)satrade@optusnet.com.au (Trade) Website: http://www.sahc.org.au *High Commissioner - H E Mr A L C K MongaloCounsellor - K Hosking (Ms)First Secretary (Corporate Services and Consular) - M M Bokaba (Ms)Second Secretary - T D ShaiAttaché - E Pretorius (Ms)Counsellor (Economic) - B Ludidi (Ms)*Also responsible for New Zealand, Marshall Islands, Samoa and Vanuatu.South African Honorary Consulate in Western AustraliaSuite 3, 1297 Hay StreetWest Perth WA 6005Tel: + 61 8 9321 0355Fax: + 61 8 9321 0426Mobile: + 61 418 768 578E-mail:repard@louthean.com.au Hope this helps and good luck!LoveJulie
JJV
Hi JulieThank you very much for the contact info.Do you know whether the office in Perth accepts passport applications?Regards
Dreamcatcher
Hi JJV,The office in Perth does not take passport applications. You have to do it via the office in Canberra.Greetings,Dreamy
Dedrei
Ok, next question (busy with all the paperwork for my new app)I am applying for passport in my married surname now. They require a certified copy of your ID. I only have the one in my maiden name, is this sufficient or do they want one in your married name? I really hope it's the first one, as I am really not lus to apply for one in my married name and then to apply for new passport. Also they say you must send your passport with your application. Surely they aren't serious? There is no way that I am sending my passport to Canberra and then they send it to Pretoria. This means that for six months I am stuck in Australia, if something might happen and we need to go overseas or something and need my passport. Just sounds too risky, not even talking about it getting lost or stolen somewhere along the way. And this passport is the only proof I have of being here in Aus legally. So I don't know really.Anybody else had similar experience or have knowledge of this, really would love to hear from you.
Lindy-Lee
Lindy-Lee

Marius
There is a company in SA called Bunnyhop Documents that specialise in getting all kinds of documentation for people, both in SA and oversees. I used them a few time when I still lived in SA for ID's etc, very good. I got my daugthers full birth certificate through them from here in Australia and was extremely impressed, we had it in 3 weeks no problem. Give them a try, they are very friendly, helpfull and professional. Best of all, they can be contacted at all times, respond to queries and are efficient. It might cost a few rand more but well worth it.Their contact detialsBunny Hop Documentswebsite: www.bunnyhop.co.zaP.O Box 639New Germany3620Tel: (031) 705-1189Fax: (031) 705-1036Mobile: 082 923 5599Good luck
Dedrei
It seems you have to be in SA to be able to do this, as they require you to go with them just to do the fingerprinting, have emailed them and aksed if they are able to do this for me if I complete all forms and get fingerprinted this side. Will let you guys know when I hear anything. Pippa
Ek sal definitief nie my paspoort gestuur het as ek in julle situasie was nie. Oh no!!! No way!!!Sterkte en hou ons op hoogte! Dedrei
Hallo daarSlegte nuus! DesertDaisy
Our Embassy here in Abu Dhabi held an open evening the other night to explain what services they offer....And after 2 hours of rambling speeches, it appears they can do nothing at all for your unless you want to do business between the UAE and SA....The ambassador's spokesman even said that you should rather just get your documents processed in South Africa by a friend or family member rather than attempting to go through the embassy...Now isn't that delightfully helpful? Dedrei
Just an update on my passport application...Have sent mine off to Canberra via Express post on 17/11/2006. Seeing as Bunnyhop got my unabridged marriage and birth certificate in a WEEK, I asked them to quote me on speeding up my passport application as I can't wait the 6 months Canberra takes, cause they send the stuff to SA anyways, as we are applying for PR pretty soon and need passport in married surname.Long story short. Quote came to R985 , still waiting to hear how fast they are able to make it happen, but will let you know. Just think it's daylight robbery. But what can you do if you're desperate and they know it.
