v1nc3nt
Hi AllMy wife, 3 kids and I have set our minds on moving to Australia. ( I am currently pursuing some options) We have decided that Brisbane seems like the best option (although I will go anywhere that we can find work). We are doing some research on accomodation transport ect and have decided to go the rental route in the beginning. (purely a financial decision). However we dont know where to start, as we have never been there and dont know the area. What areas will be best for families with 3 young children (all under 7). We are hoping for something that is close(ish) to schools, parks and general family entertainment. Any reccomendations will be greatly appreciated. Also, my wife is very excited, but being the nervous-nelly that she is wants as much info as possible. We have read all (or most) of the positive and (minimal) negative post on the forumn. What she is interested in knowing is if there are any of you that, having a choice again, would have decided not to go to Australia, and why?Dont worry about putting us off as our minds are made up (or have been made up for us due to the current SA circumstances). We are just wanting to get an allround perspective, so as not to arrive there with our heads in the clouds. Thanks
Mara
Hi VincentI cannot help with suggestions on Brisbane areas, but I can tell you that if I had known then, what I know now, I would have emigrated before then!Should have done this 40 years ago, not 13! Nothing, but nothing, would ever make me return to SA. If it wasn't for visiting my family, I would not even go there on holiday as there are many more safer places to go!Mara
chatterbug
Hi Vincent,I have been living in Brisbane for about 2,5 years now. Happy to try and help and advise about suburbs/areas. This can be a very difficult thing to advise on, since it depends on individual choice, how much you want to spend etc. So maybe you can give a bit more info on what you are looking for? Eg size of house, block of land, preference to be close to water /does it not matter, Proximity to the city (which will mostly effect the house price), Style of house, desire to live in areas where many Saffers have congregated/or is it not important, aversion/affinity to traffic/commuting/living close to public transport options. Get the picture? To get you started I suggest reading through some of the previous threads/posts on the topic of Brisbane and suburbs (some are more relevant than others - but it should give a good overall idea). For your convenience I have added some links of the posts that I contributed to below:http://www.saaustralia.org/index.php?showtopic=1165&hl=http://www.saaustralia.org/index.php?showtopic=1156&hl=http://www.saaustralia.org/index.php?showtopic=1057&hl=http://www.saaustralia.org/index.php?showtopic=1083&hl=http://www.saaustralia.org/index.php?showtopic=942&hl=http://www.saaustralia.org/index.php?showtopic=723&hl=http://www.saaustralia.org/index.php?showtopic=682&hl=If there is more info you need please shout! Not sure what type of "transport" you are looking to get more info about, but if you need relatively cheap car rental - upon arrival till you buy a car, or settle closer to public transport options, I suggets looking into soemthing like http://www.abel.com.au/Anyway if you can PM me to if this suits better.CheersBrissieBUG
