Morningstar, Inc. is a leading global provider of investment research. Morningstar is a trusted source for insightful and independent information on stocks, managed funds, exchange-traded funds and hedge funds, with operations in 18 countries around the world.

Morningstar Australia is looking for an Associate Research Analyst to work within the fund research team in Sydney. This is a new position that requires somebody who is passionate about investing and helping individuals make better investment decisions. We expect fund analysts to develop clear opinions on funds based on research that goes beyond mere performance and risk evaluation. To research funds thoroughly, Morningstar interviews portfolio managers, undertakes quantitative analyses using our proprietary databases, and reviews thoroughly process and methodology documents from the manager. Analysts build expertise on specific managers, the fund industry, and various asset classes. As analysts develop, you will have the opportunity to write feature articles and handle media and client calls.

As an Associate Research Analyst you will be assisting the Fund Analyst team with all aspects of the review process including the collation of data and drafting of reports. You will be required to liaise with our internal data team and investment management companies. For this role you must have the ability to develop clear opinions from research and express these in a concise and easy to understand manner. You will be a recent graduate with some work experience and a desire to complete relevant postgraduate qualifications (eg. CFA). The ideal candidate will possess excellent research skills, attention to detail, and an interest in learning the complex structures of different investment vehicles. Excellent spoken and written English language skills and solid computer skills are essential. While some finance experience will be viewed favourably, having a passion for investing and the core skills is most important.

If you are ambitious, creative, outgoing, and possess the above qualifications, then apply by emailing your cover letter, resume and a writing sample to recruitment.au@morningstar.com.

Applications that do not contain all three of these items will not be considered. The closing date for applications is 24 April 2008.
