Marius
Hi guys,So the wife and I will soon be in Adelaide on a short visit - my question is this:Where in Adelaide is the best place to have a sit down, a cold XXXX draught and the best fish & chips? G'day !The best place by far for a cold beer and nice fish and chips is Glenelg. Drive down Anzac Hiway about 10km towards the beach and you will drive directly into Glenelg. The little fish and chips shop in Jetty road is the best and received and award for the good fish and chips in 2007. We normally get the fish and chips ( wrapped old school style in paper ! ) and sit on the grass near the beach to eat, or grab a bench in the little square. PLenty of little cafe's, restaurants and pubs there for every taste. Give it a try.
Annette
The Broadway kiosk in Glenelg is good for a lazy afternoon and not quite as in the midst of the hubbub. You have to either walk south along the esplanade right to the end (about 1km and a beautiful walk), or park there and then after your fish and chips walk into Glenelg from there. That's what we usually do because it's such a nightmare to find parking in Glenelg. Then you can have a nice beer in one of the bars in Glenelg. If you don't mind the price you can have the best seafood and the best views at either The Grange Jetty cafe or the Salt bar and restaurant in the Holdfast Shores marina, Glenelg (upmarket). The best is usually found in the rural seaside towns and villages outside of Adelaide though. If you are going to explore a bit, try Normanville beach cafe (our favourite), the Star of Greece in Willunga (expensive and Kylie Minogue's favourite), the Flying Fish in Goolwa or the restaurant in Aldinga on the esplanade (can't remember the name). Marino Rocks has a nice cafe and take away with excellent fish and chips and wonderful views, plus you can have a great walk along the clifftop. The beach is rocky there though, but the sunsets are amazing. The proprietor is a local legend, but beware he can be quite grumpy and decide rendomly mid-afternoon to stop making fish and chips because the restaurant is getting too busy . You get what he decides you get there, if you get anything. It depends on his mood, but when you do get it, it's historic! The Somerton surf life saving club also has a lovely little cafe right on the beachfront. They do fish and chips. If you want your beer with the fish, you will have to find a licensed restaurant, otherwise get the fish 'n chips and then find a bar later.... soooooo many options!
