estelle.tait
I'm waiting to write my English test and then my paperwork will be processed. Are there any South African nurses working in the occupational health profession? I've been searching the internet and there does not seem to be much unless they call it something else there. I'm trying to find out if there are many of these positions available in Queensland and how do they rate when it comes to salary?

Madelein
Hi EstelleThings do work a bit different from South Africa. You get your State Awards and are getting paid by the year eg year 5 etc.Doesn't matter if you work ICU or in the ward - no stress Pay.You start off with Level 1 - going up to year 8. Start salary in Oz is about $45 000 p.a. for fresh out of Uni.Level 2 nurses are usually nurses that's done a post-graduate course: critical care, maternity occupational health etc. You get paid by the year of experience. Nurses that can educate staff - sometimes called a CNS - clinical nurse specialist - up to year 6Level 3 is the ones that can give education, contributes to resource and development, usually the NUM (nursing unit manager) - also getting paid by the year - up to year 6And so the list goes on - but you can meet the structure once you arrive.Link:http://www.wageline.qld.gov.au/awardsacts/...ClassificationsBest advice I can give you, is to try getting sponsorship (457) from a hospital in/around Brisbane area. They love to handout education possibilities and you can work your way up whilst applying for PR onshore. This will give you some Ozzie experience that will help when you do your assessment with Australian Nursing Council. If you have an Occupational Health Certificate from SA, you can get mutual Recognition - but sometimes it's not possible. There is a lot of jobs in Brissie, but it hardly gets advertised on the net. Mostly the local paper. The reason for this is that Occupational Health jobs is rural and you need to learn the ways of the Indigenous people. You get an Occupational Health & Safety Officer at all Hospitals, but ufortunately you have to do a course for that as well - no where else but in Oz.Link:http://www.wageline.qld.gov.au/awardsacts/...s&_id=N0130All states has different nursing awards, but you can use this as a guidline.RegardsMadelein
