The Birth of A Foal

We moved the heavily pregnant lady, Beaty, last week - a very, very long trip. We worried ourselves sick about this girl and her foal. Luckily everything went well.

We expected the foal around the 16th of this month. Mares normally drop their foals between 3-4am - the time when most predators are supposed to be sleepy. So every single morning around 3am, we've been checking on the lady.

Mares will drop foals after a big storm as well - yesterday we had lots of thunder and rain - I panicked, because I don't have a proper shelter. Luckily the weather cleared and I expected things to happen.

This morning 3am I checked on her again - she was very happy - no signs of a foal. Around 5:30am I checked again and there was the little man - all clean and dressed. Beauty looked at me as if I'm a totally confused dad - how stupid can men be???? Never there when you need them most.

The little fellow is doing well, had his first buck after half an hour, galloping around the paddock. Foals can gallop after 30min of being born. The dogs ate the placenta of course.

I handled the foal - Beauty trusts me 200% and the foal is not afraid at all.

Beauty is a well bred Thoroughbred and the sire a Arabian stallian - good endurance line. I must still think of a name.

How lovely, his looks so beautiful. Congradulations. Give mom a carrot from me. We had a foal born on our property and first saw her about 4hr after she was born. They grow so fast. Owner sold both Mom & foal at about 8 months old.

Baie mooi meneer!

Hings of merrie'kie?

Die DanceMe kom blykbaar van Leonard Cohen se "Dance me to the end of love' af.
