@Stephen, so the long and the sort of it is . . . . ??? DIAC had the CSL, SOL and MODL, how does the new SOL fit in to bigger picture. I regularly try encourage people to migrate but not sure how this all fits into the proccess and points etc.

When I got my visa, Computing Professionals – Systems Manager 2231-11 was on the SOL but not anymore. How would have that effected me? Infact only the following IT jobs:

261111 ICT business analyst

261112 Systems analyst

261311 Analyst programmer

261312 Developer programmer

261313 Software engineer

263311 Telecommunications engineer

263312 Telecommunications network engineer

There is still a lot that DIAC have to tell us in relation to the new SOL. They haven't even allocated points or assessment authorities to the new ANZSCO coded occupations. Another huge yet to be answered question is how DIAC will deal with current positive skills assessments with 'outdated' ASCO codes.

I have spoken to DIAC this morning via there dedicated hotline only to be told that none of the above has yet been finalised!

I'll keep you iniformed as more information is released.

Yep, I called them too, and was told that nothing other than the new SOL was finalised yet......here's hoping that they put their minds to all the ramifications before 01/07!

The new SOL phases out Life Scientists so does that mean I am out? Because it does say you can get into Australia via State Sponsored. So can I get into Australia still via a State Sponsored visa which is what I was planning anyway earlier on?

Thank you in advance.

Sapna :ilikeit:

Thanks Stephen, on the Ball as per usual.

If your occupation is not on the SOL then check on the lists for the States. I am Sure IamInAct posted links in an earlier post. Diac have thrown a lot in the hands of the state with regard to their sponsorships. The states have had to do a costly exercise of assesment to show DIAC the proof of what positions were short in their respective states and the states have compiled a list of their own codes and some of those codes are not on the SOL.

If your code is on the state list go for state sponsorship. The new state migration plan which will kick off on 1 July puts you 2nd on the priority list.

I am sure Stephen can confirm what I have said or even add to it. Bottom line is though, if you have an occupation that is in Demand either in the states or Oz as a whole, you will get a visa. If you dont be prepared to wait 5 years plus and then there is still no guarantee that you will get it.

http://www.minister.immi.gov.au/media/medi...010/ce10036.htm

raises some interesting points:

"the Government has driven a reform agenda, aimed at shifting the supply-driven skilled migration system we inherited to a demand-driven one."

"In 2007-08, of the 41 000 general skilled visas granted, more than 5 000 went to cooks and hairdressers; three quarters of them had formerly studied in Australia. These two occupations have been removed from the new SOL."

"'But there are some occupations where there will continue to be a high demand for skills and we welcome highly trained people to Australia to fill these vacancies."

Its interesting... seems Australia is going the way the rest of the world is... get a job in a field where you arn't likely to replace an Australian.

Hi all

Just question i lodged my visa app in dec08 for 175 then got state sponsorship from western OZ and submitted that in dec09.My skill was toolmaker but i see that is not on the new sol.How will i be affected in terms of processing time ,as they say if we lodged before the 8th we will be assesed under the old criteria but what worries me is will that not do to some of us what they did to some 20000 that lodged before sep07 and refund the people and cancel there applications. If anyone has any info on how much longer my application will take.

Lots of comment in the Oz press as well, looks like migration to Oz is getting tougher. DIAC is now looking at net migration, rather than immigration in isolation. Also revised population growth estimates downwards (yes they do plan for those factors down under) to cater for urban planning and water and energy constraints. I think this 2011 figure of 170,000 places will drop by year end...just a prediction. Best get in your apps asap, or follow alternate routes, such as ENS, if you are not on the SOL effective 1 July 2010.

It should have no impact... It just means that you can't cancel your current application and apply for a 175.

If you needed to reapply you would have to get an job offer or yet another state sponsorship.

Also, have another read of the new SOL... it uses the new ANZSCO (Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations) so your job may be there, just under a different name.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am very new in the steps to immigrating to Australia :ilikeit:

My occupation is on the SOL list, and my boyfriend can nomminate an occupation. We are writing the IELTS test end of June 2010.

Would it be better to find a job in Aus before leaving?

What is the waiting period for a skilled independent visa?

Hi

I'm totally confused. Is there a list of occupations in demand for the different states? How does one go about applying for an employer nominated visa?

Found this on the DIAC site. What is this all about.

Should I be stressing about my FS 176 application?

"....Skilled – Sponsored (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 176)

About this Visa

Temporary closure of certain GSM visa applications

The department has temporarily suspended accepting new applications for Subclass 175, Subclass 176 and Subclass 475 visas. Subclass 475 subsequent entrant applications are still being accepted by paper application only.
