Statement for Sponsorship

We are looking at converting our 175 to a 176 in order to try and speed up the process (being neither MODL nor Critical Skills List we have dropped to the bottom of the priority list).

Australian Capital Territory has both my own occupation (General Manager) and that of Riana (Dietician) on their sponsorship list. I am looking for some help with what to put in the Statement that form the core of the application.

Based on the ACT Application form you need to demonstrate your genuine commitment to living in Canberra for minimum 2 years (max 2 pages). Included must be the evidence that you have personally researched the following:

  • Canberra’s unique lifestyle;
  • Employment opportunities;
  • Family attractions;
  • Explained how they will suit your way of life more than any other city in Australia;
  • In your own words tell them why you want to live in Canberra;
  • Simply providing copied information from the internet or another source would not be considered sufficient evidence of your commitment to living in Canberra.

My Questions:

  • Does anyone have examples that may help?
  • What would constitute evidence that we did the research ourselves (other than a LSD)
  • What do we include?
  • Does anyone (perhaps living in or with family there) have info that we can use for the above (e.g. lifestyle; employment opportunities; family attractions; etc)?
  • What would be a reason for distinguishing Canberra from other cities in Australia?
  • What would be good reasons to want to live there?

Hi Daar

Gaan loer by hierdie topic wat weer ander links sal oopmaak: http://www.saaustralia.org/index.php?showtopic=21075

Basically they dont want you to just cut and paste info from the net they want you to "interpret" it for your particular circumstances. So if they say the weather is good - then you go on about how you enjoy outdoors sports and outdoor activities - maybe say how much time you spent on this in South Africa and that this would allow you to continue with the same. If you have kids, show you have contacted schools, found out about the curriculum and of course what made you choose those schools e.g. music programmes, sports etc and then relate this back to the ages of your kids. If you have kids who are in high school you can mention universities and opportunities for employment for them and get facts and figures to back up your case. If you can get a pack or something on living in ACT - get them to send that to you so you can say you have sent off for it. That should be a pack which does a good sales job for the state and then you pick some of the details from there and relate it to your particular lifestyle. There should be heaps of info on the net - all you need to do is to convert that info into something that relates to you personally. Contact employment agencies to find out about job opportunities - even apply for a few. See the salaries and then relate that to say housing and other things saying it gives you a suitable lifestyle. If you are into cultural activities and you see similar activities being advertised then mention that. At the end of the day probably not about why you picked Canberra over say Sydney but rather what aspects of life there ticked the boxes for you. Sure it may be available in any city but at the end of the day you have to pick a city and take it from there.

Great - thanks. This helps a lot in terms of the thinking and approach. Have you been through something in this line?

I was also hoping for someone that can perhaps help with some of the details that is already there. Do you perhaps know of someone or is there someone on the forum?

  • 1 month later...

Must say I got a fantastic response from a lot of people that helped compile this. Tehre are a few others at the moment busy with the same process for Canberra. I have sent some details through to them that might help. If someone else needs help with the ACT value statement drop me a MP and I will see if I can help a bit.
